Health care costs
For those who are so very proud of the mess called the health care bill, thought you might want to hear the news that came out (you surely will not hear this from the WH).....SEEMS the CBO has released a new estimate on costs as of May 11.....
http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/114xx/doc...Ltr_HR3590.pdf The total now comes to $115 billion above the original price tag ! And according to the Wall St Journal and Fortune Magazine , employers are doing what everyone said they would do, ie. bailing out of private carriers which will eventually drive health care costs through the roof. http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/05/news...efits.fortune/ Now, you would think that a smart President and a smart congress would not have wasted an entire year on a bill that was done in backrooms, with payoffs, and no attention to actual health care costs which was the problem and pass it despite KNOWING that the majority of the american people did not want it. All you folks going on and on about how great this was....stay tuned...it will tie ALL congress time from now on...this bill was/is a disaster and if they had wanted a bill addressing pre existing conditions, they could have had it easily but the politics of the situation got them so caught up..... It just amazes me that smart people could do this, and NOW as everyone has a chance to read it, it is becoming apparent is is a total disaster ! |

Just wanted to add...do you recall the President and others saying....wait until the americans read this bill and then they will favor it !
Checked some polls as of this morning and the poll numbers favoring the bill have gone DOWN ! I really think this bill is going to haunt us for many years ! |

"Health Care Law
63% Favor Repeal of National Health Care Plan" "Support for repeal of the new national health care plan has jumped to its highest level ever. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% of U.S. voters now favor repeal of the plan passed by congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Obama in March." Just saying...like congress and the President said...just wait until they read it and learn about it..... http://www.rasmussenreports.com/publ...ealth_care_law I figure with all the problems in this country, THIS ONE THING will tie up at least two of coming congressional sessions simply fixing what could have been done without the payoffs and bribes ! Maybe just maybe they may get to cutting the costs of health care ! |

This law, this health care bill is going to plague YOU, ME, OUR CHILDREN, and our GRANDCHILDREN..and PLAGUE is the correct word.
Have you wondered why this "awesome", "big f'ing deal", "legacy making" legislation is not talked about much anymore.... " "Since passage, reports have revealed that ObamaCare would cost over $1 trillion by any standard, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), not “merely” $940 billion as previously reported (while its total costs in its real first decade, 2014 to 2023, would continue to be well over $2 trillion); that ObamaCare has prompted major corporations to discuss dropping their employer-provided health-care plans; that businesses would have to file 1099s not only for every person to whom they pay $600 in wages but for every vendor with whom they do $600 in business, thereby imposing a paperwork nightmare and incentivizing companies to avoid doing business with a myriad of small firms rather than a handful of big ones; that ObamaCare would create 159 new federal agencies, offices, or programs; that the Obama administration’s Medicare Chief Actuary says ObamaCare would raise U.S. health costs by $311 billion in relation to current law and would shift about 14 million people off of employer-provided insurance — and some of them onto Medicaid; that ObamaCare’s would discourage employment, as — for example — hiring a 25th worker would cost a business $5,600 in addition to wages and benefits; that ObamaCare would impose a severe marriage penalty, offering additional subsidies as high as $10,425 a year if couples merely avoid marriage; that a lone provision in ObamaCare, which would penalize employers if their employees spend more than 9.5 percent of their household income on insurance premiums, would cut the net income of businesses like White Castle by more than half; that even though ObamaCare was supposed to get people out of emergency rooms and into doctors’ offices, those who build emergency rooms say the effect will be just the opposite and that they are gearing up for increased business; that doctors shortages are looming and would be accentuated by ObamaCare, both because more people would seek care (otherwise, what would the $2 trillion be buying?) and because fewer people would likely enter a demanding profession that would now promise greater restrictions and lower pay; and that President Obama’s nominee to head Medicare and Medicaid under ObamaCare is an open advocate of the British National Health Services’ NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) and its methods of rationing care." http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/op...-95104599.html This bill, conceived in back room with actual bribes for votes totally ignored the american public. The american public wanted a bill that would help with COSTS...they got nothing to do with costs..NOTHING. This administration and congress completely ignored all of us ! Then they said, when the american public hears more they will like it..trust us....turns out, the more they know, the more they reject it. This bill will be an albatross around our neck....will prevent us from addressing the deficit problem until it is taken care of. Anyone who voted for or supported this bill in any way shape or form has to be voted out...and anyone who is speaking against repealing this bill shoud receive nobodys support. You can speak of the deficit all you want...THIS has to be handled first ! |

Now we find that many of the studies used to "sell" this health care bill were extremely flawed and not only has our congress not addressed health costs, but it seems we could see our actual care be reduced in quality !
"As they followed one another off the political cliff in voting for the health-care overhaul, Democratic senators and representatives comforted themselves with their own self-created myth that, although ObamaCare was horribly unpopular as a bill, it would prove to be quite fetching as a law. Furthermore, this transformation, this change they could believe in, would take place sooner rather than later — as voters would reward rather than punish them for passing ObamaCare in clear and open defiance of popular will. ....." "Unfortunately (from the perspective of ObamaCare supporters), a steady stream of revelations of previously undiscovered horrors buried in the bowels of ObamaCare appears to have more than negated any gains that the administration might otherwise have made." http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...water-0?page=2 I have posted a number of articles on the cost and finanacial mess this bill is going to create in this country, but we now find that our actual quality of care is going to suffer... "Much of the focus on Obamacare has rightly been on its fiscal recklessness. But in a New York Times story —the type of story the Times couldn’t seem to find space for prior to Obamacare’s passage — we see a clear glimpse of the kind of care that Obamacare would likely spawn. With the nomination brewing of Dr. Donald Berwick — a gushing admirer of the British National Health Service — to head Medicare and Medicaid and with Americans already clamoring for repeal in ever-greater numbers, the story, although tardy, is an important one." http://weeklystandard.com/blogs/real...cost-obamacare And this is the link to the NY TIMES story referred to where information was given to congress by Dem leaders of this bill from an obsure study that now we find does not say what they say it does. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/03/bu...Cbg252BYAePVjQ This issue, in my mind, has got to be a centerpiece of the November elections. We need to know where each candidate stands on this piece of legislation that is going to doom us for one reason..... It was conceived for political reasons, by politicians, in back rooms by paying bribes. Health care in this country nor the costs of such health care was NEVER a goal or an issue ! |

I haven't had a chance to read all of the articles Bucco. But I wanted to say this. I was just listening to a talk-radio program. The host, Neil Boortz, was talking about how government involvement in private business - especially healthcare - has, and is going, to continue to make full-time employment a thing of the past. Employers will move to temp services and part-time workers if the government keeps imposing costly requirements.
Boortz mentioned this story about Rep. Alan Grayson out of Florida introducing a bill to require some employers to provide paid vacations to employees!!! "Rep. Alan Grayson was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation. "So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation Act — legislation that would be the first to make paid vacation time a requirement under federal law. "The bill would require companies with more than 100 employees to offer a week of paid vacation for both full-time and part-time employees after they’ve put in a year on the job. Three years after the effective date of the law, those same companies would be required to provide two weeks of paid vacation, and companies with 50 or more employees would have to provide one week." http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22794.html |
