If they argue for poligomy based on fairness or religous custom, what argument could we use? I understand it is illegal but so was sodomy. It might take a few steps but.......

What argument did they use to justify gay marrage? Think about it,

Maybe if you'd listened to the stories of people who were beaten BY POLICE in Boston just for being gay, you might have more sympathy.

If you'd heard the stories of gays and lesbians being denied the same basic rights that you and I have come to accept without thinking, you might have more sympathy.

I used to think along the same lines, opposing gay marriage - it seemed ridiculous to me when I first heard about it. But I kept an open mind and my position has most certainly changed.

While accepting that this type of bigotry is more common in the Northeast than it is here in Florida, when did this last occur?

This is from Florida from last year. My guess is that this kind of bigotry is more common in the South than in the Northeast.

"a freshman at Flagler Palm Coast High School, began receiving death threats over Facebook from a classmate, who said he’d carry *** out in a body bag. The school assured **** and his family they’d keep him safe, and remove the student from the school. That was a lie, *** explains himself, as was the notion of safety: his own shop teacher ****** began targeting **** over his sexuality." (quote from story linked below)

Coming out of the closet is one thing. But to pump it up and make like it is as OK as what has been held sacred since the beginning of time.

Some things are just better left alone and I believe this is one of them.

Obama might just wish he did. But, he really didn't say anything substantial. He said that gays "should" be able to marry. He didn't say they have a "right".

He said the states have to handle it...............what courage.

He's also 3 years late, if you count Dick Cheney saying that, and more, in 2009.

I appreciate your reply, but you cite individual actions rather than those by police against homosexuals. If you wish to question that discrimination against homosexuals by law enforcement is more common in the north than it is in Florida, please cite specific actions.

Now, it appears that we will allow gay marriages. And allow me to add lest you think I am over reacting the Democratic Party has now pledged to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which would subject every state to the redefinition of marriage by a judge without ever allowing the people to vote on the matter. Our Justice Department will not even go to court to defend this law of the land, which has become the norm recently.

It seems to me that the foolish folks here are us folks who got married. What was the point of that and certainly why bother in the future.

Of course as the movement is gaining speed on legalizing dope (marijuana) we can really be happy beings.

All this in the name of social justice ?

Probably just me, but I think the fabric of this country is becoming unraveled and with great speed. If there is anything that requires any personal discipline, let us attack it and make it legal and then we do not need to worry.

In addition to the above, it is now acceptable to verbally accuse the successful of not being fair, it has become the accepted thing to depend on the government for whatever you need and please don't feel guilty about that........our complete soical fabric, the one that made this country great is dying very quickly !
The best illustration of your point I can think of is Patrick Buchanan's recent column, "Can a Geriatric Germany Save Europe?".......the Europe in which declining human reproduction is producing demographics not constituted by enough working taxpayers to sustain the ballooning government-dependent population.

Regardless of whether you believe in God or even nature, God and/or nature require human reproduction for continued existence of the human race. Defy God and nature, and you are doomed as a civilization!

See:

"Can a Geriatric Germany Save Europe?"

"As Greece lurches on the precipice of default on its sovereign debt, a default that could bring down banks across Europe and precipitate a global financial panic, a consensus is building that there is but one way out.

First, a structured default on the Greek debt, giving creditors a major haircut, but compensating them with eurobonds of half the face value of the Greek bonds, guaranteed by the European Central Bank.

Second, a huge new European Financial Stabilization Facility of trillions of euros to recapitalize stricken banks and buy up the sovereign debt of Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Spain, should private investors flee their bonds.

Such a solution, however, depends upon Germany, the richest nation in Europe and major contributor to the ECB.

Hard-money Germans, however, do not relish bailing out the deadbeat nations of Club Med who have more generous welfare states than their own.

Politically, it may not be possible to cajole or coerce the Germans, indefinitely, into saving the eurozone, the collapse of which could bring on a depression and bring down the European Union itself.

There is another reason the European Monetary Union and EU may be headed for the boneyard: demography.

Looking over the 2008 World Population Prospects from the United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs, one finds that the nation which is to carry Europe back to solvency is aging, shrinking and dying..."

And to that I will add, take a look at world birth rates and see where European and other western nations are on the list:
