Default Lockerbie bomber....

Now, when this guy was released from Scotland and sent to Libya....headlines like this...

"Lockerbie bomber's release called 'insult'

"President Obama called the Scottish government's release of Megrahi a "mistake," and said he "should be under house arrest" in Libya. Obama said the White House had contacted the victims' families to tell them "we don't think this was appropriate."

Then we heard just the last few days our President with the Prime minister of England again decry the release of this man as it was done.

Now today.....

"White House backed release of Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi "

HE US government secretly advised Scottish ministers it would be "far preferable" to free the Lockerbie bomber than jail him in Libya.

Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.

The US has tried to keep the letter secret, refusing to give permission to the Scottish authorities to publish it on the grounds it would prevent future "frank and open communications" with other governments.

Does anyone have a sensible explanation for this ?

This story is puzzling to me. Why would this administration favor a compassionate release over imprisonment? Is this just another sign of Obama's outreach to the Muslims? Have we been made fools of by Gaddafi as they treat Megrahi as a jihad hero? The entirety of the information needs to be released.
