Default Michelle Obama's Luxury Spanish Vacation

"Let them eat cake" was the response when told there was no bread.

Unemployment over 20% Record deficits. Were at war and the White House lives like Royalty.

Default Yeah, it is a "personal" trip...on an air force plane....

60 secret service people. half of a 5 star hotel booked for her group, all paid for by you and me.
Personal, BS!!!!
Remember do as they say not as they do.
Totally out of touch with setting any example...more like who cares we are the First Family...they have no concept of loe profile nor do they care!!

And if a Republican is elected in 2012, the same complaints will come from the other side. They dissed Reagan for his "Imperial Presidency" - examples including howls about Nancy buying new White House China while we were suffering 20% inflation and the Prime Rate was near 20%.

Am I the ONLY one who remembers this stuff?

The first ladies have always spent a lot more money on clothes than say...the women on my street.

But...they get invited to fancier places too.

That is just how it is.

I want to hear all of your great brains tackle the issues. I am learning from all of you.

Now I gotta get out of Political.

Default Yesterday does not deny nor support the present

except in the minds eye of the relavent individual.

Yesterday, right or wrong does not justify today's actions and in the case of MO
some of us think it is not being handled properly. That is our today opinion based on today's environment, based on today's attitudes. In my case I don't need to remember the past as it adds no value for the present...for or against.

Seems you spend inordinate amount of time defending Barrack (Barry Soetoro) Obama.

Obama has been preaching to sacrifice and lower our standard of living and then he does the opposite.

Reagan..has always said to go out and pursue the American dream and be the best you can be and be prosperous.

You cannot see the difference!!!!!!

djplong---- Yes, Nancy took a beating about the china. The fact that it was all donated didn't matter to the democrats or the media.

How did we get to this point? I understand protocol, appropriateness, being representative and so on. But honestly, how did we get to the point that any of this is an acceptable way to act by people who we elect to represent us? Any of them. Not just Michelle Obama or Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton.

While we are all worried about her multimillion dollar vacation to Spain and her Whitehouse staff of a record 26, what is really happening? While she is in Spain, missing her husband's birthday, she is meeting with the king of Spain during her "vacation" and the press isn't allowed anywhere, anyhow near what is going on.

She's meeting with a head of a country that Obama's administration wants to model our green world after. The state department lifted a travel warning for American's traveling to Spain just before Michelle's innocent little vacation.

I do believe I have fallen down the rabbit hole.

Actually I'm defending Reagan, believe it or not.

In hindsight, Reagan's actions were vindicated. He was attacked from all sides just the way Obama is attacked today. It's even worse now because of the country having all the 24-hr news channels and an MTV-inspired attention span shorter than a flea's wing-beat.

People are screaming about Obama doing things that every President has done (or not done) before like it's some new horror or slight to the Republic (like the Boy Scout Jamboree idiocy). They complained about all of Reagan and Bush's vacations (both Bush Presidents for that matter).

It's the double standard that gets me.

You want to discredit Obama? Then discredit him on SUBSTANCE - not this idiotic 'fluff'. Unfortunately that would take TIME - TIME to see what the REAL "unintended consequences" of 'Obamacare' and the 'stimulus package' are going to be. It took years for Reagan's tax cuts to have their TRUE effect. Likewise we have to wait and see here as well. But we don't WANT to take the time. We just want to scream, rant and rave - claim that Obama is the antichrist (in another thread) and get our results NOW NOW NOW.

Getting tired yet? At least you have the guts to come on here and defend your idol.

If you cannot see the difference between Reagan and Obama.

Reagan gave us inspiration to better ourselves.

Obama parties and acts like a king telling the serfs to "suck it up."

His wife is going to Spain renting 60 $2500 a night rooms and then having a private meeting with a socialist monarch.

Let them eat cake!!!!!!

Oh there's a HUGE difference between Reagan and Obama - however there are also some startling similarities.

They both came into office during a disastrous economic period which was instrumental in the incumbent (Carter) or the designated heir to the incumbent (McCain) losing the election.

In both cases, foreign policy disasters (Carter - Iran, Bush - Middle East) only made things worse.

Now, the recipes for recovery are far different - but then there were differences in the situation as well.

Reagan inherited higher tax rates. Obama inherited lower ones. In both cases, the deficit's the inherited got dramatically worse - largely due to increased spending.

[Side note - I have a hard time understanding why Tea Party activists are screaming at Washington about how their taxes have gone sky high when federal tax rates went DOWN. It's STATE tax rates that went up]

Reagan's critics said that he wanted to nuke the planet. Obama's critics say he wants to bring down the Republic.

Both are overstated blowhard demagoguery.

djplong, I know many people in various Tea Parties and their complaints aren't centered on how much they pay in taxes. It is mostly on how wastefully their taxes are spent. Do you honestly know anyone who wouldn't rather keep more of their own money, the money they've earn?

+1 Spending, health care, jobs are the main concerns of the Tea Party. (I might have missed some)
But with taxes scheduled to go up in January, you will probably see more emphasis on taxes.
