Default New Gallup Poll: Conservative more than 2X more patriotic than Libs.....Duh!!!

I don't really have to say anything, but a new Gallup Poll finds that Conservatives are more than twice as likely to be strongly patriotic as a Liberal. This is obvious to even the most casual observer though.

Wow, amazing. Like Ben Stein said, "I mean I gave serious consideration to whether I even wanted to write a post on this poll. I don’t write about water being wet, do I?"

Default what??

Richie, you and I have political differences and that's O.K.But when you post total garbage and spin it your way I take exception. 2x more patriotic? The first sentence says"conservitives are twice as likely as liberals to express very strong patriotism". So that means there 2x more patriotic? Only if you don't read the rest of the article. Here were 3 of the choices given...Extremely patriotic was choice 1 very patriotic was choice 2 and somewhat patriotic was choice 3. Now suppose you choose #1 and I choose #2. Does that make you 2x more patriotic? No.no.no. Nice try. I might also point out that patriotism has many different meanings,it is certainly not a blind trust in all we as a country do and waving the flag does NOT mean you are a patriot.

Wouldn't it depend on whose flag your waving?

no it would not. Your inane comment really deserves no response but what the heck. There are many Italian Americans waving Italian flags during the world cup. Are they not patriotic?

Criticism of my post withstanding, I really meant what I said. I have seen a disregard of the USA flag on many occasions. These same people for reasons unknown, despise the USA. The same people who burned it in the 60's are now teaching our children. Nice cup of tea, huh?

I have also seen it and don't agree with it. But your observation has nothing to do with the original post.

To me the main point was that 2X more people who classify themselves Conservative said they were strongly patriotic that people who classify themselves Liberal. What more is there to say?

It has everything to do with this thread. Patriotism is supposed to be taught to our young. Our history and heritage is being monkeyed around with by the "educational" system paid for by American taxpayers. This country was founded by conservative patriots.

and what's the difference between strongly patriotic and just plain patriotic. This ridiculous notion that conservatives are more patriotic than liberals is a joke.

Pat2010 "our history and heritage is being monkeyed around with by the educational system". No its being destroyed by a combination of the federal govt and its unfunded mandates and the worst parented group of children in American history where all a child is told is how good he/she is and failure is not possible and the over protection of these spoiled brats is sickening.Just about the only place where there are a few expectations for a child is in school.

My reaction comes in two words:

"Define patriotic"

Pollsters hate me. I live in New Hampshire. I get to tweak them every four years

You make my point. I know what *I* consider "patriotic", but to have some pollster group use the word? What do THEY mean? How is the data going to be used? Do they consider it patriotic to speak out against bad laws? Is "patriotic" simply wearing a flag pin? Can you be "patriotic" and not know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States?

We all have our definition.
