Back then did posters use their name or was everyone a guest?
Read some of the posts and tell me if you will, if they sound like the posts we read today? Certainly most, not all are about different subjects but do you also notice a different tone? Do you see any insults? Any theories why the tone changed? I haven't been here very long so this surprised me. |

All I can add is tha the prior political forum one used the same identity as we do on the non political forum.
There are some of us who were frequent visitors. There were just as many rude, disrespectful, name calling aggitators then as there is now. An advantage we had then ws to be able to utilize the ignore feature of the site (which we cannot do today). While I cannot speak from personal experience some posters did go after other posters via private messaging....another reason for the all "guest" format of today. And speaking from experience, there will always be rabble rousers and baiters and plain old nasty folks on most sites. Fortunately they are in the minority. Unfortunately that minority disrupts the total and gets far more attention than warranted. In today's political forum the best tool for the aggravators is to either not engage with them or totally ignore them. |

I was on p61 This was the title and the message of the OP Liberals are smater I have been reading about the connection between Higher intelligence and liberal thinkers. Everything points toward liberals being in the group with the highest IQ. It does make sense and I can see where having a higher understanding of not only yourself, but of others around you would cause you to be more liberal. If you don't have the ability to analyze all aspects of a situation thoroughly, you would more likely fall into a more primitive mode of self protection at all cost. Hence studies indicate that the high level thinkers tend to be liberal. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0224132655.htm There are 4 pages of of posts. Both sides of the topic is discussed but not a singe insult like you see now, absolutely no vulgarity and no threats. You can find it and read it. I'm seeing everything. Nothing or no one is blocked. Do you think it's a sign of the times? We hear it all the time. People are angry. [ps The OP even spelled smater wrong. He was teased a little but lightheartedly.] |

I compared the views to the posts. It's around 10% no matter what the topic is.

I find it interesting that a smattering of posters will come on here, a totally free and open forum and criticize it's structure. Not attempting to be rude, but I do find it rude to come onto someone else's forum and criticize the makeup or structure because it does not contain what THEY want in it. And when some posters are actually being themselves, you complain that they are being rude. In my opinion, and take this for it's worth or lack of, there is a difference between PC and manners. On this forum, if one says something that does not appeal to you, you complain and sometimes get rude....depending on the type of person you are. But, if someone is rude back, then you scream for a change in the forum. Sounds to me like you want to manipulate or control the conversation to suit your ideology.
I think that some of the folks on here wish for identities so they have a means of reporting behavior that is not consistent with their view, and then attempt to get that person banned from the conversation. Basically, controlling the conversation. I go into the conversation or discussion on a subject with the intent of voicing my opinion on the subject. I do not ever get rude until someone that doesn't agree with me, gets obnoxious and starts calling names. Yes, I get sucked into the conflict, but I don't take it personally. If one takes these things personally, then they really shouldn't even be posting on here. Just my opinion. If one posts on a political forum, they cannot take it personal, just because other folks are very adamant about their view on the topic. I would wish that folks would stay on topic and not resort to personal name calling, but on the other hand, I do not wish for anyone to control the conversation. I am fine with the venue and structure of the forum, and the only recommendation I would endorse is an "ignore" button. But, if one cannot ignore the comment by the others, then that really is their (my) problem, isn't it? I enjoy this forum and thank those responsible for providing it. |
