Political Decision good for America Security??
Napolitano said it was a distraction for her department and that it was not worth pursuing. The resources will be assigned to local lawmakers needs VS the ability to track ports, borders, etc.
"After numerous congressional briefings on the importance of the NAO and its solid legal footing, politics beat out good government," We all expect some things to be affected by political leaning than good decision making. But a process and technology, while controversial (again based on politics) was proven to congress to be of value in the fight against terrorism. It should be unacceptable to Americans to have their safety potentially jeopardized because of politics. Al Queda has just this week once again encourage the use of nuclear weapons to kill Americans and destroy the American way. The words are not used anymore "war against terrorism" and now dismantling anti terrorism capability. Maybe it is because they fear the technology has the capability to discover their wrong doings or illegal shenanigans. America being returned to the status of "paper tiger". GOD help us and those who will ultimately be harmed as a result of diluting our efforts to discover terrorists and their activities. btk |

If I remember correctly...After the first Twin Tower bombing (below in parking lot)the Clinton administration decided that it was just a criminal act and the perpetrators would be brought to justice in our courts of law. In the meantime, the masterminds behind the bombing went back to the drawing boards to find a better way to bring the towers down. Since it was determined that it was just another criminal act instead of an act of war...they had all the time in the world to plan without any agency tracking them down.
If future acts of violence in the USA are treated as a national crime instead of an international crime....does that not encourage terrorist acts against us? I could be off-base here...but are we going back to the pre-911 mindset? |

I think I know where you're going with this, but I'm a tad lost. Did you possibly leave a paragraph or two out of your original comment or did it get chopped up in transmission? ` |

After reading it again it is a bit choppy. I erred in presenting what was beinghttp:/
done and why prior to my commentary. Here is the source of my Issue:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124572555214540265.html My issue is, to eliminate any source of intelligence that COULD lead to exposing a terrorist plot is not in America's security interest. It was hashed out in the informative sessions when proposed. As in all aspects or survelence, there is an opportunity for abuse, real or percieved.....but political? Another hole will be created for the terrorists to exploit. Apparently there is a notion that since so long a time has gone by there is no longer a threat. The videos of the 911 attack need to be viewed again. All the words...such as never forget et al have been forgotten. The fact that the terrorist nations continue to threaten to kill Americans....using nuclear capability is a warning to who/whom? THEY HAVE PROMISED TO DO IT AGAIN....with bigger effect and more casualties. The have persisted. They have the patience. They know we are an apathetic paper tiger.....and easy pray!!! Napolitano is erring based on politics.....NOT REALITY. btk |

There are a lot of things going on with this administration that is just plain scary. Just yesterday I read, and this is of no surprise but to see it in print was alarming, an article about Al Queda talking about how they still consider this country..our USA..to be the "head of the serpent" and should they ever get control over Pakistans nuclear supply, they WILL use it on the USA ! We always hear that we should not live in fear and that is true, but should we not be able to trust our government to protect us WITHOUT regard to political gain or loss ? |
