He was born in the bronx. Do you know the dominican culture? In particular how, why they migrate and how they assimilate? Doubt you do.

The issue of immigration or rather the various reactions towards it are as old as mankind (if I were a devote progressive I would be required to say humankind instead) .

It is indeed a primal instinct to be alert to strangers and question their motives and their affect on one's society. How people respond is another matter.

Perhaps some will recall that back in the 1980's the Governor ( ie government) in Oregon launched a campaign that essential said please come pay us a visit but then go home

Indeed some residents living in TV have the same philosophy.

The immigration problem in America is a result of an immigration policy that is predicated on only joining family. Our policy should be revised to accept only those immigrants that can fill a particular job/professional shortage and need and who are coming here with a job and hence will assimilate quickly .

All this talk of xenophobia, etc is spin meant to frustrate a rational immigration policy. Look at who makes these false claims and you can readily determine their self interests.

My PERSONAL experience is they destroy everywhere they go. Once beautiful and safe SMALL isolated communities being overrun with Hispanics, crime, assault, drunkenness, traffic accidents...ALL went up...as the outlying "Mexican towns" went up.

Schools that were once white and safe and successful are now full of stupid, violent minorities and going downhill fast. White students assaulted by minorities. White girls being FORCED into "hooking up" with minorities for fear of the racial retaliation of refusing a minorities advances. Yes, the minorities ALL gang up on the poor girl yelling "racist", "you're too good for a black boy?", pushing, shoving, they harass her until she relents. ASK your granddaughter who go to "diversified" schools how it REALLY is.

In my mind...just about everything has gotten worse and not better. We have more "toys", that the only improvement.

What a load of crap.

I supervised a woman law student from China while working at the U of MN Law Library named Joy for a year or more, had a Korean MD roommate for nine months named Dr. Kim who now teaches pharmacology at Yonsei U in Seoul, ate meals with various international students like two Spanish ladies from Bilbao along with some people from South America, had a best friend of an Iraqi Cataloging Librarian from the U of Mosul, Mahmood, while at the U of Denver and kept on a correspondence with him for two years, etc. Lived next to a group of South Americans in Belmont, CA while working for Information Access Company. Had a neighbor from Guam who was gay and had to fight off his advances. Also in Belmont.

You think I would talk about my 224 613 Project with someone was helping to find a book in a library? How colossally stupid! I do and have written immigrant groups though about what kind of practical information needs they have if they become survivors/victims of crimes that could be met by libraries.

Met Cesar Chavez while at the U of MN Law School who had very extensive experience with immigrants.

Met a survivor of one of the concentration camps from WWII. This was a few years ago in the Villages at the dog park. He used to give speeches at the Temple up the road from Southern Trace Shopping Center. He has a cute dog.
