One thing I love about this board is how it can create thought and research. Thanks to ISLANDGIRL for doing that.

My short bit of research on this quote shows that it has been stolen and enlarged for current political gain but ISLANDGIRL has it quoted correctly.

Best meaning I could find was this...

"What he meant by this was that the Roman empire was stretching itself too thin. It was waging war and conquering everything in sight, and like all empires it got too big for its britches and arrogance was ultimately its downfall."
