...and *still*, *none* of this addresses WHY we pay MORE than TWICE as much as ANY other country (per capita) to get substandard care.

Well if government actuaries project $247.00 in 2014 you can bet that amount will double when it comes due. Anyone welcoming ObamaCare might take heed of that old saw "Watch what you wish for you just might get it."

I am exasperated by blank statements like this. Substandard care? Really? By whose standards are you judging?

My understanding is that until we get a COLA increase, those currently paying for Medicare will not have a premium increase. New people age 65 going on SS and Medicare or on SS and turning 65 and going on Medicare will have the increased premiums.

That has been the way it has been for the past two years since we have not had a COLA.

We're ranked approximately 37th among industrialized nations for the quality of our health care according to the WHO and other international organizations.

If you don't like those kinds of numbers because of the source I recently found another interesting one. IMO one good metric is life expectancy - and we're approximately 55th (Japan is #1) in life expectancy, TIED WITH CUBA according to our own CIA World Fact Book.

"Medical Tourism" was unheard of until a few years ago. Now 10 times as many people leave this country to find health care elsewhere than come here from abroad. That's even more shocking when you realize that our population is such a small fraction of the world population. If things were equalized, FAR more people would be coming here from the rest of the world's 6+ Billion people than our 300+ Million going elsewhere.

Again, we pay more and get less. Hardly the American Way.

We have been down this road before, many times. We all know how they juggle the statistics to suit their agenda. If I had a serious ailment I would look no further then Boston or another city in the USA that has the finest doctors and hospitals in the world.

I am with you Villagegolfer! One has only to look at the medical schools FULL of foreigners on US soil to learn medicine...AND the majority who will do anything to not have to leave after graduation. The white, American born, male medical student/resident is practically non-existent. Come to the hospital where I work, I will take you around and you can ask for yourself. Take your pick-Asian, Middle Easterner, South American, Russian, or African...OR ask a number of each, as I have! You don't really have to ask, they are busting at the seams to tell someone their good news. Once they have tasted the Land of Opportunity and Medical bounty, they are working on ways to get visas for the rest of the family. The stories they have to tell about the misery and suffering from back home are unbelievable. WE recently spent many off clock hours working on keeping a young Middle Eastern husband and wife (both physicians) and their two young children, to renew their visa. The young wife was in tears practically begging for help. Fortunately opportunities were found and connections expedited their stay in the US of A!

Here a good article debunking the liberal socialized medicine wanting naysayers of medical care in the U.S.A.
