We only have one golf cart, but she takes the cart sometimes without me. Do I need to purchase two GPS Apps for my wife and I or can we share?

Each device has to have its own app. One app one device, two apps two devices. Updates and upgrades are free though, and if you get a new phone you can port your app from your old phone to the new phone.

Unfortunately, the app currently only works on the device on which it is downloaded. We are exploring alternative solutions for family sharing in the future. Best Regards, Villages GPS Team |

For Android (Google) users, you can create a Family Library. Then, you can share purchased apps among members of your group. Apple has something similar.

As mentioned , there are two apps. The Villages version is free and Villages GPS is paid . Yes, the similarity in names can be confusing.
I have been using both for many, many years and I can definitively tell you (my opinion) is that free is not always better. One fantastic feature the pay app offers is called “Point to Point” It allows you to map out a route from ANY two points that you select vs from your current location offered by the “free” app. I use this feature all the time and feel that just that feature alone is worth the very modest fee (pennies a day) charged. Also, I find that the user interface in the paid app is more intuitive than the freebie. Edit : Out of curiosity, I asked AI which app was considered “better”. Here is the link if you’re interested. The Villages GPS App shows an accurate speedometer while in navigation mode. I use that to calibrate my on-board speedometer.

He’s wrong. The paid app is so much better and does so much more. Some people are so cheap they just don’t want to part with their money there’re so tight.
One other thing: the paid app was started by Villagers to help out with a total GPS just to help out. The speedometer and point to point is a big plus. Last edited by Heytubes; 10-08-2025 at 11:24 AM. Reason: Extra info. |

Whenever the Russians hack the app, the people fix it within a few minutes. Hasn’t happened in months.

![]() ![]() My fear was Russia was going after America's power-grid, good to know they focused on a retirement community's map app effecting a few hundred users. ![]()

I have both the paid and free apps. I use the free app all the time and have used the paid app twice… tried it twice but went back with the freebie. I’m not cheap and still pay for the app but for me, I haven’t figured out why I need it over the free one.

Check out all the neat stuff on the paid app. None of which is on the free one.

Over 80,000 downloads and the majority are active users. 'Hundreds' is fake news LOL.
