I have a 2017 Yamaha golf cart that I am very happy with, but it seems to be running at a really high RPM at 20-21 mph. Not neccesarily looking for more speed, just looking to bring the RPMs down at the higher speed. I was told I might have the stock gears and probably need the high speed gears. I have a second cart that runs really quiet at those speeds. Can anyone recommend a place that does this type of work? If there are several that do this type of work, I am in the north near Mulberry RC.

We have the same cart, no apparent problem with ours at these speeds. IMHO, you might want to see if you have a belt slipping or another problem. I would suggest one of the mobile cart repair companies, I have used Todd Casey and was pleased with their work, before you go to high-speed gears. I believe these cost several hundred dollars to install.

Todd’s number is 352-465-3934. His wife typically answers the phone. Last time I used his service his son did the work. He is a great kid and a very competent and knowledgeable mechanic. It’s good to see a successful family business. Good luck.

Have you put a tach on it? What rpm’s are you seeing.

Good thing there aren’t any hills in the Villages. Traveling throughout the entire Villages in our quiet tech with high speed gears, I have only once noticed a decline in power relative to our 2014 EFI. That would be going over the golf cart bridge crossing 441. A small price to pay for a quiet ride, close to 300 miles per 5 gallon fill up, great handling rack and pinion steering, and bump absorbing four wheel independent suspension. Running a cart at high RPM’s without high speed gears for thousands of miles can’t be a good thing for the engine in the long run.

Anyone living in the Historic section can show you otherwise. The same for Odell Circle, and various other parts of The Villages.

Might want to check your odometer. 300 miles with 5 gallons is 60 MPG. Per dealer they get around 35 MPG. I have always exceeded the EPA MPG estimates and in the cart I probably do get around 35 MPG.

I said close to 300, our 2014 EFI gets 250 from a tank confirmed (it has an odometer) and our new EFI quiet tech gets a few more MPG. Even though the Quiet tech doesn’t have an odometer, I know it gets better MPG because I filled both full and golfed with my buddies for a week using both carts the same and when done the quiet tech took 3/4 of a gallon less to fill back up.

I suppose those might be considered hills by Florida standards, but in reality they are just very small short steady inclines. They might feel like a hill for a senior citizen riding a real bike (not an e bike), but they don’t effect a quiet tech golf cart.
