I have met some sweet pit bull mixes at Doggie Doo Run Run.

How did pit bulls get such a bad rap? | Cesar's Way

I enjoy being around dogs a lot but I am wary of Pitbulls. It is my belief that they have a genetic personality that is unpredictable and perhaps untrainable in certain instances.

Just as much as I believe that almost all Golden Retrievers have a genetic predisposition to gentleness and Border Collies have a lively intelligence and some little doggies to barkiness.

If you want to see a lot of nice pitbulls you should watch Pitbulls and Parolees on TV. They do a wonderful job of rescue. They are located in New Orleans.

I am always glad to be proven wrong by any one given a bad rap, but I would still keep them and little kittens with claws away from small children not known to them.

That is MY opinion.

A quick look at Google Stats: 2015 twenty eight Americans were killed by Pitbulls---14 were children. In the last 10 years, a total of 232 Americans were killed by Pitbulls. They are a dangerous dog IMHO.

There are lots of sweet-tempered Pit Bull mixes around.
Sadly, many Pit Bulls have been bred and trained to be mean. Supposedly by drug dealers.
Plus they have very strong jaws, and obviously this creates a problem if they've been raised to attack.
Unfortunately this has given the entire breed a bum rap.
It is illegal to breed Pit Bulls in the Province of Ontario.

Adopting a Pit Bull >> PAWS

I have come across a few Pit Bull Mix owners at Doggie Doo Run Run who have too much confidence in their ability to control their dog. It still depends a lot on the individual pooch.

Outside of the dog park I do tend to be very cautious around any dog that looks like it is part pit bull but I tend to be careful around all unknown dogs. Especially chihuahuas!!! Small teeth, very big attitude.

Pit bulls can be aggressive, especially when protecting their territory or people. So can goldens, poodles, labs, etc. The American Staffordshire Terrier can be a sweet, loving, protective pet. They have to have a strong handler and one who is willing to train the dog. Personally, I really like pit bulls. I've not found them to be any meaner or more aggressive than any other dog breed that is known for being protective, as long as they are well trained. I trust them far more than a chihuahua, several of which I've seen turn on owners and family members.

Chihuahuas can be unpredictable especially if they are experiencing pain of some kind. Because they are so small too I think they have to give their families the impression that they are the boss.

Chihuahua mixes can be different because they can be quite a bit larger and not suffer from various breed maladies.

I have actually met more chihuahuas in the Villages that scare me more than most of the pit bull mixes but there have been a few exceptions like Harlow who I believe is a pit bull boxer mix.

My daughter has a huge male Doberman that has a wonderful disposition and loves people. One of my cousins has a pit bull on her Maryland Farm where I stayed a few days. The dog was easy going and cuddled up to me once it got to know me but it knew me as a guest. I think how a dog is raised has a lot to do with its disposition but certain breeds are bred to have certain traits...

Chihuahas can be very mean and snappy.

Tal, it is an interesting link. I would have guessed eight of the dogs to be pit bull mixes.

My Mom would never accept a pit bull mix into the family no matter how sweet. Kind of sad. I doubt if she has ever been all that close to one though.

There was a chihuahua that lived across the street from Bob Carroll a KOLO News station anchorman in Reno, Nevada on the street where we lived. I would often walk past the chihuahua in the fenced in front yard and it would rush the fence and act like it wanted to take off whatever piece of me it could get a hold of. That chihuahua was my only real experience with the breed until adopting Sport a part chihuahua. But when I first heard that the Sumter County Humane Society foster parents were bringing a chihuahua/terrier mix to visit the house and see if it liked us, I was very much tainted by the Reno nasty little chihuahua I grew up near there. Sport like Beau is a wonderful dog. Sport is still with me in my heart.

I have met a number of nasty little chihuahuas here in the Villages however. Many sweet ones though. It seems that many of the dogs up for adoption here in the Villages' area are chihuahua mixes of some kind or pit bull mixes of some manner.

Jade is a very sweet pit bull mix I like at Doggie Doo Run Run but I have met some others at DDRR which I keep my distance from. You just have to watch the dog and the owner for a while and see how each interacts with other dogs and people. I have mentioned my problems with Harlow which looks like a pit bull/boxer mix which does not seem to like men at all. Harlow is getting better but whenever I see Harlow I go somewhere else away from any chance of me getting hurt.

My CA/NV family have pit bull mixes but they stay out west. Kind of far to go or come and if they do the dogs stay out west. They have snakes too which would even make me a little uncomfortable and probably scare the poop out of Beau.
