The new dog park at the south end is a reality. The final plan is just about finalized.
The park is located down by Brownwood and will be west of the shopping center where the new Publix is located.

There will be two separate fenced sections -- one for larger dogs and one for small dogs.
Each section will have a doubled gated entry and water will be available for the pups.

I agree with Janet, please go to the RDOG3 meetings to assist and support developing a new doggie park that is bigger and better. Otherwise, let's not be critical of what others have worked to achieve. Thanks.

I do recognize all the hard work going into getting this small park, but looking at it from a law student's point of view, this park at the small dog section is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I had to watch out for falling when trying to pick up the poop from my dog Sport while also watching my dog and not tripping on the rather steep slope. The big dog section is better as it is not so much of an incline. I have never taken Beau there and probably will not.

Someone will fall though and almost any lawyer could argue that you do not put dog parks designed for seniors and they dogs on steep inclines. It is very foreseeable that someone will fall and then sue.

Kathie, I don't think anyone is blaming the people that worked hard to get that park. The blame belongs with the rec dept. or the developer, or whoever it was that didn't see fit to provide an adequate sized park like, say, up at Mulberry. And I agree with Tal that it is an accident waiting to happen, especially for the bigger dog owners. If nothing else, large dogs attempting to run in that area are a hazard to people.

Please don't take the criticism personally. We went there a couple of times with our 86-lb dog. Not enough room, plus he came out of there filthy due to too much dirt, not enough sunny room for a grassy area. It might be fine for small dogs. However, all the small dogs were lined up along the fence barking their heads off in fear aggression as the big dogs walked by to get to the large dog area. They should flip the areas so the little ones don't have to see the big ones approaching. They could be carried back out by their owners. The big ones don't tend to hang around the fence at the entrance.

I think the little dogs should not bark at the big dogs.

I am betting that 2 days after it is opened there will be posters on here complaning about something to do with the new park.

I do use the other Villages' resident dog parks on occasion. The ones in Mulberry and Lake Paradise. There is also a very nice pathway around a picnic area at Lake Paradise that welcomes dogs on leashes. You also have to pick up your dog's poop. It may not be open to dogs in the future though because some are not following the law and collecting their dogs' feces.

We use the paradise dog park and it is nice. Waste bags, double gated entry, big/little dog sides, and lots of huge live oak trees filled with squirrels to vex our dogs. Plus you get the cool golf cart ride over the bridge, past the lake where the dogs can see the ducks. It is shady there with enough benches. There are several water bubblers on each side. The walking paths have been resurfaced and the area is beautiful. I hope the Brownwood park will be as nice but we north siders have a good thing going!

My problem with the Brinson-Perry dog park wasn't so much the slope or even the size or the closed mid day hours. I would have taken my large dogs there for the convenience of it if something could control the mud and lack of grass. My dogs get so filthy there that I am hesitant to take them anymore. After several visits we also stopped going and found other places more suitable for exercising our dogs. I am looking forward to the new dog park also, but I am hoping that it will be more accessible for car drivers than the Mulberry Dog park where you have to park and walk quite a ways if you don't go by golf cart.

I am sure that you are right.

It's just like, if you ask ten people for their opinion, guess what?
You will get ten answers and probably most of them will be a complaint.

Go figure!

Default So why does a dog park close midday ?

I figure it is the scoopers time to get ahead of the morning crew.

There should be a sign down low. "No Barking at the Big Dogs."

I don't know how anyone in their right mind can call Brinson-Perry a dog park.

It's not even fit for a human!

It is a very nice dog park and I use it quite frequently. The bubblers are quite badly designed thou. I hate having to raise one arm to turn it on and sometimes pebbles hurt my knees. They could do a better job cleaning them too.
