Be careful of the children and dogs biting each other in the squares.

Amen......I am a dog owner and would never take her to the squares. Especially when the fresh markets are open. Dogs do not belong in the squares nor do they like being there. When your dog is taken to a square and he is hot, thirsty, hungry, tries not to be stepped on and tries not to have some trip over him or his leash, did he really ask his owner to take him to the square? And what happens when your dog has to go potty while he is in the square? Our dogs are fabulous and we love to show them off. Do it in your village where he has room to walk and be greeted by the neighbors and the neighbors dogs. As far as the new dog park, Atlas Dog Park, below 466 A. You should come to the meetings on the 1st Wednesday of every month. The meetings are held at Eisenhower Regional Rec. Ctr at 7 PM. We had one person who decided to get us a dog park below 466 A. A lot of us joined in and have worked extremely hard to get this dog park started. 3,000 signatures were needed to get the dog park on paper. Meetings with John Rohan, bake sales, great speakers at our meetings. In finding a place for the dog park we had to complete a certain criteria. Keep in mind when the dog park is completed, probably late spring, early summer 2015, volunteers will be needed. Dog owners will be expected to clean up after their dogs. If not, you will be reported. This is going to be a beautiful dog park and the members of the RDOG3 are very proud to be a part of this project.

No one should say that eye witness statements are 'just your opinion.' Really sounds lame, and how in the world can you say my dog needs "manner training?" Maybe some posters here need pent up anger and serious issues with children looked into.

I stand by what I said. I love my pet and I don't need to stroll around with him in heavily pedestrian places to fulfill any needs.

I go to a dog park where my dog has a huge amount of play territory and I pay a fee for that - because I care about him.

I am thrilled that we will have a dog park on the south end. I occasionally bring my dog to the square. She is usually in a stroller minding her own business.

Diane Ferguson, who heads up the Responsible Dog Owners Group 11 is the person who is mainly responsible for this new park becoming a reality. You might want to attend the next meeting which is always the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Eisenhower Rec Center.

She keeps us updated at the meeting regarding what is happening insofar as the dog park is concerned. Also, we always have an interesting speaker.

Join us -- everyone is welcomed!

Oh, please!
Kids touch far worse things than a random flower that some dog MAY have peed on.
The probability of that is negligible.

Let's not get paranoid about inconsequencial things.

Janet -- I had not read your post when I responded with my post; I read your post afterwards.
And for anyone reading these posts, Janet, the secretary for the group,
has also worked diligently to make this park a reality.

Thank you for giving better and more information than I gave!

Inconsequential you say

Some of the diseases that can be spread from pet waste are:

Campylobacteriosis- a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea in humans.

Salmonellosis- the most common bacterial infection transmitted to humans from animals. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Toxocarisis- roundworms transmitted from animals to humans. Symptoms include vision loss, rash, fever, or cough.

I guess you're talking to me about serious issues with children, I got me seven kids and a whole passel of grandkids but I wouldn't let any of them run around at a square trippin people. I thought maybe your dog didn't heel too well if you're worried about him at a square, my two dogs know how to heel, I think there are lessons at that school place if your dogs needs lessons.

A quick Google search shows that all of these illnesses are not contracted by touching urine or bushes with urine on them, but by touching feces of an infected animal.

Since you never see dog poop in the squares, and TV's dogs are extremely well "vetted" and cared-for, I believe this statement is faulty and inflammatory.

This is silliness. There are lots of dogs and lots of dog owners in The Villages, but I would be greatly surprised if there was a single case of roundworm infestation here caused by exposure to dogs. In addition, salmonella and campylobacter are far more likely transmitted by food contamination or person-to-person contact than by exposure to canine waste.
