I have a little Morkie who is my heart and soul. I do not want to lose him ever. He wears an embrodered collar with his name and phone number. He is microchipped. AND I HAVE A GPS FOR HIM, yes, that is right, a gps. Its called Whistle (whistle.com). It costs about $70 and then a monthly subscription of about $6 or $7. Well worth it for me to never lose my baby. It works on your computer or smartphone. You set boundaries and when the dog leaves that area, it sends an alert. You can then track your dog so you don't have to wait for it to be found. You can go out and get it- before it gets hit by a car or eaten by an alligator or coyote. My baby is 10 lbs and while the device that attaches to his collar is a little big for such a small dog, I don't care as long as it lets me get my dog back as soon as possible! Please consider this small investment to keep your dog from being lost. Now if they will only make smaller ones for cats!

Thank you for being a responsible fur baby owner. I have questioned why these devices are not used for pets before. Most think my pet will never get out. Such a small price to pay for peace of mind.

I would especially use one of these on a cat, too, if they make them small enough. Stuff happens, even with the most responsible pet owner.

Our dog is microchipped. I suggest everyone have their pet done. It doesn't cost very much and it brings peace of mind knowing that should she ever get lost, someone could scan her and be able to track us down. Plus you would never know she has the chip. It doesn't bother her. So if you are worried about that, don't be.

When I became involved in lost dogs I researched and even posted about some of these trackers.
Whistle is only recommended for pets over 15 pounds. It seems to have a lot of issues of late and if you have more than one pet.. could get costly. I know of people who have three cats, a couple of cats and a couple of dogs. It won't work for cats unless they are big... The cost of the device is $80.00 and the people writing the review are saying the cost of the service is $10.00 a month. Some of the reviews said it gave them false readings, telling them their pets were out of the zone when they weren't and some said it gave them false reading as to where their pets were. For me. I feel I will wait until they get the kinks out. If you have pets over 15 pounds and can afford for all of your pets! YAY!!!! You hit the jackpot!! I'm still looking for something for my guys, that isn't going to cost me just to monitor that gets better reviews. Here is a link to the product. I hope it works for you! It's a GREAT idea! In view of the fact that some of the gps monitors don't have the kinks worked out of them yet, microchipping is best, and the collar with name and number embossed on it is second best. The only problem I see with that is many cats and some dogs will not respond to strangers. So hard to get the animal close enough to catch and have chip read, or catch and read collar. But it's better than nothing. Check this out Amazon.com : Custom Embroidered Dog Collars - Personalized ID Collars with Pet Name and Phone Number. Adjustable Sizes with Plastic Snap Closure. : Pet Collars : Pet Supplies
I have had so many of my dogs' tags come off while playing, that I think the collar with name and number is an excellent idea.--second line of defense beyond microchipping. And sometimes I wonder if it would get you your pet back faster since all someone would have to do is pick up the phone, as opposed to taking the pet to a vet.

[QUOTE=angiefox10;1236736]When I became involved in lost dogs I researched and even posted about some of these trackers.

Angie: I never heard about the 15 lb thing, but my dog is 10 lbs and yes, it is a bit big on him. But he is so scared of people it is worth it to me. He has gotten used to it. And I can tell you, Amazon sells it for $70 and the subscription has choices. I did 2 years for $7. Maybe 1 year is $10, I'm not sure. The longer you do it, the less it is but being as my baby is only 1 year old, I did the 2 year. I have had Whistle for about a month now and every time it has been spot on about where my dog was so I have not seen any kinks yet. I just think its a great idea for scared dogs especially since they won't go to anyone. Microchipping is great and all should have it, but if the dog won't go to someone, a microchip and collar won't be as effective as a gps. Just thought it was a great idea and I think most people don't know about it. I didn't until I started looking into the idea of creating one and in research found out they were already on the market. |
