Those shackles were necessary due to adjustable air shocks on rear...plus, it was the cool look back then. When I got to
Germany, I had to change my gears back to 3.23 from 3.91 so I could run the autobahns.

The first new car I ever bought was when I was 19 years old, a 1966 Olds 442 convertible, it was a low option 4-speed car, I paid $3,033.00 for it and it took half my monthly pay to make the payments but it was worth it. I used to race it at Dragway 442 in West Salem Ohio, I held the BB Amateur class (street tires and no modifications were allowed) speed and time record of 14:07 and 103 mph. I can still remember how that car smelled when I picked it up at the dealership, less than a year later it was stolen and recovered, 3 months later it was stolen again and was stripped and wrecked.

Got 11mpg if I babied it ( which was rarely). You should see the gas gauge go down when accelerating.

1975 Cadillac Calais 4 door hardtop with every accessory you can think of. A true land yacht. Set the cruise control, select a good radio station, and relax in the leather seats that made you feel like you were in your own living room. Made long trips a real pleasure.

I reluctantly let it go when the Arab oil embargo made a car that got 10 mpg around town a liability. I traded it in on a new Cadillac that got better gas mileage, and have owned Cadillacs ever since.

It got me through the winter snow while everyone else was stuck!
I'd give me eye tooth to have it now -- stick shift and all.

Well, here's the thing stopping me . . .

If the Ghia was my only car, unfortunately, my big dogs wouldn't fit in it.

Maybe my husband will surprise me one of these days, though.
