Default champioship golf course maint.

does anyone know why when they aerate the greens on a course that has 27 holes, why don't they do just 9 holes and close it, leaving the other 18 holes open for play with NON BUMPY greens .. then wait 2 week and do another 9 .. instead of doing all 27 and losing a lot of business to the other courses.. who is in charge of this and anyone know where to get a phone number??

That's like saying, "Honey, are you going to clean the house today?".

& she responds, "I just do one room a day, so the whole house isn't disrupted. That way, the house is just partially disrupted, every day for a week".

It's not practical to aerate only part of a golf course. Aeration starts, aeration continues until it's done.

Ask for Rickey Craig, he's in charge. Let's us know what he tells you. He's been doing this for 20 years, but I'm sure he's always anxious to learn why he's wrong.

So what is your aeration strategy for our 18 hole courses? Do 9 holes and have the golfers play the same 9 twice ?
In your scenario if only one course was aerated at a time, the speed of the greens would be different for each of the 3 9s all summer as they would be on different healing schedules.
Talk about opening the proverbial Pandora complaint box for the residents

That would make too much sense on 27 hole courses.

OP, I don’t have an answer for you but it may be “labor efficiency “ related. Just a guess. I have observed aeration being done for all 27 holes at other places where I have played in Florida and where I lived in other areas of the country.

Geez. The depths to which some folks will drill to find a topic to complain about is mind boggling. Aeration schedules are posted online, and easily found. It is a simple task to find an alternate course for a week or two while the greens recover after punching. These are first world problems, folks. Yet, I'm sure tomorrow will usher in a new slew of inane complaints. Some people just refuse to be happy.

In NJ, courses are aerated fully at certain times of the year when the growing season is optimal. Never done half an 18 hole course for this reason.

It's quite simple really. They want everyone to be miserable!

I'm sure there are other reasons but 1 is the equipment used. It is shared amongst many courses. When you use it 1 time per year, easier to get the most done at a single time. Less expensive too. You can also have other maintenance projects performed while closed, people in support roles a day off lower payroll costs. As a golf pro over 30 years, these are just some of the reasons why it's better to close a facility.

The goal is to have the green surfaces consistent over the 3 nines. To accomplish that they have to aerate/sand/mow/roll in a tight timeline.

The aeration is available online. Don’t play a course that’s just been aerated.

Default Fact of Life

Greens aeration is a fact of life for golf courses............Twice year in the north, spring and fall when grass is growing and 3 times a year in the south when greens are growing..pretty simple equation.........you do them all at once otherwise folks will only want to play the one that wasn't done..........not smart

That being said, when you play aerated sanded greens you need to take an automatic 2 putt.............having 9 three puts due to bumpy sand is insane...........
and your padding your handicap

If your gambling on aerated sanded greens you are delusional.........

Just try to make the first putt and then pick-up.......your sanity will be saved and you can get back to normal once the greens recover........just fact of life

Slow time of the year and don’t have to move equipment around as much.
