Replace the keyboard. I have been able to recover keyboards from water spills but have had no luck with other liquids.

Let the keyboard dry out. Should work unless you had heavy cream and sugar on coffee. Otherwise you're looking at a new keyboard.

Cool

Before you go out and buy a new keyboard, if you can't get it to work, throw it in the dishwasher and run it through a cycle. When finished, let it dry completely....maybe a couple days, unless you can use compressed air to blow all the water out.

Should be like new.... I worked in IT [for a while] and we ran all our shop floor computers through a commercial dishwasher to remove oil and dirt from everything...keyboards, monitors and the computer itself. As long as you don't plug it into electricity wet, no harm.

thanx, guys! do ya think that is what is causing the cpu to beep [am guessing it is some sort of alarm]

i have an old gateway keyboard around here somewhere - could i connect that and expect the computer to 'find new hardware' and configure it?

for just a week and a few days - i can wait for 'santa' to bring me a new one to match the desktop!

The number of beeps mean different things:

Try this site:

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

or this site (Different codes for different boards):

http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Art...BIOSbeep.shtml

or google cpu beeping codes and look at the various results.

You can buy a new keyboard really cheap. I have never ever heard of anyone running them through a dishwasher. Do you clean your flart screen tv at the carwash too ?

If the computer beeps each time you press a key, then the keyboard buffer is full.

If the computer beeps on its own, then could be other problems.

If you can, borrow a keyboard from someone else to make sure that's your only problem before you buy a new one.

Default cpu is beeping...RESOLVED!

z - what great sites!! who knew!! saved 'em for future reading!

pulled the plug on the cafe au lait keyboard and the beeping ceased [heaven]; plugged in a spare and am good to go! this antique, however, is not the least ergonomic - or at least as thin as the last...new one going on the list for santa!

thanx again for the help from all of you - even the dishwasher!

Glad you liked them. I have at times spilled a beverage on a keyboard and after spending hours trying to get it back I found out that Office Depot on 441 (across from Wal-mart has a number of keyboards in the $14 range.

I worked as a computer tech for many years. Spilling coffee pretty much means you will need another keyboard especially if the coffee had milk and sugar in it. I never had much luck after cleaning a keyboard with sugar in it as the keys always wound up being sticky. You can take the keyboard apart and clean it with a proper solution but keyboards are cheap these days and not worth the trouble. IMHO

When someone spills a liquid into a keyboard, the best thing to do is turn the keyboard upside down and let the liquid drain out. Water will be okay but other liquids like coffee and juice will eventually cause sticky keys. Wait until the keyboard is fully dry before plugging it in.

The actual number of beeps tells you what is wrong per Zcaveman's post.

Glad to see your back up and running and the problem is the keyboard only.

I guess I was typing and your post appeared before I hit the submit button.
