Default Just got hit by a virus---or something!!

Yesterday, our laptop computer that MBH uses got hit by a virus...I ran AVG and it said it cleared 3 trojans...then I agian manually updated AVG and ran it and cleared 9 trojans. Ran AVG again and all seems OK....no infections found!

Things seems OK but I noted this morning that the laptop was not asleep and the start up screen was showing. I checked AVG history and the program ran last night (as it does every night) no infections found. SO I started to use the internet when all of a sudden sounds like a radio station came on and I could not locate the source. I went to windows task manager (Control-alt-delete) and even after shuting down all applications I could not find the source of the radio noise..no files open no applications runing) so I turned the computer off. I then restarted the computer and the windows initiation screen came up but after that I only had a BLACK screen with a cursor...no beeps or no start screen. Man what a mess!!

This is an IBM laptop and has a system restore capability and it looks like I will have to restore the operating system. NEVER DONE this before. Is this complicated or what do I have to be careful ...or should I get knowledgeable help!!!

Default Computer fixed - it was messed up

After installing a new virus software, calling one of the $25-30hr guys in the newspaper, having a friend knowledgeable about computers and who communicates with the Computer Club gurus, I finally gave up and called TED FRY with MidStatePC (352-399-4986). Ted came to the house and tried to see if it would be an easy fix and it was not. He took it to his house, had it over the Easter weekend and brought it back Monday all cleaned up.

Here is what he found. THis being my wifes computer, it had BIG problems with 2-3 trojans, Rootkits imbedded, hidden files and drives, a radio that would start playing 2-3 in the morning, Computer Restore would not work, and the registry's for the USB drives were wiped clean.

Ted charges more than the $25-30 guys you see in the paper but you obviously get what you pay for. Ted is patient and understanding plus he got the job done....AND for an extra charge, he will tell your wife to stay off the Arts and Craft web sites that most likely got her into this mess.

Most of the consumer friendly antivirus software programs available today fall a little short when it comes to prevention of virus attacks. For $25 to $50 one gets an antivirus program that tells the user that there is an intruder ALREADY in the house. It would be nice if the program stopped the virus at the front door. By the time the user gets word that there is a virus on board, the virus has already started its black magic and getting rid of it turns into a major job. And one can't depend on one progam alone. You need another one to find those viruses that the first one missed.

You need to download anti-malware. There are some out there on the internet that are free. I too was hit and this did fix what I needed.

My Sweet nONIE

Easy answer...it is the better halfs "putter" that started sputtering and of course I know it was those malicious watercolor and oil paint sites she visits that did the trick. You know and I know that this could happen to anyone even when you think you are protected......AH reminds me of 40-45 years ago but now its the electronic age we have to worry about!!

Before your computer has real problems try running this. It's a lot to do and takes a while but it will clean your computer and it's free.
