SO...update...after all the speed tests, resets, phone calls to Dell AND Centurylink, and one very kind offer on here to help me, it seems the problem was my router!! I finally got a proactive Centurylink tech, and he told me the next time my computer slowed up on me (after they switched channels several times, etc.), he advised me to unplug and bypass the router and connect my computer directly to the outlet which is where the fiberoptic cable comes in to the house. It is running fine!! I will now call Centurylink back and have them replace the router, at his suggestion. Finally!! Months of annoyance! Once tech even advised me to buy a wireless extender, which helps if you're moving your device around the house, but I am at my desk and connected. Thank God the Walmart employee was a former tech (?). Anyway, thanks much TOMWED for your kind offers to help. With the holidays and company and , and, and, I just finally got around to taking care of some things!!

Oh...somehow I missed a lot of the above posts. I use the Super Anti spyware, but I also have Dell Conceirge service. They told me not to purchase it again when they send me the renewal, because they can download it for free for me. Actually, I never download anything...like JAVA, Flash player when it asks, I am so scared of getting something I don't want...hahaha. I always call them if I need anything updated/downloaded. Also, they told me something to look for..."invisible boxes". When you get a box asking if you wanna download something, they said never just click the NO button. go up to the box and shut it down by the red X in the upper right hand corner. Sometimes, there are invisible boxes over those you can see, and if you dont just shut it, you are inadvertantly clicking on something anyway....imagine???

We use Norton 360 for all of the computers and the android phones. This provides lots of protection at a very reasonable cost, if I recall correctly, round $60/year for 5 devices. Plus they have good to very good service if you run into a problem.

In you all programs list on the start icon you have accessories. Click it and got to system tools. In system tools run disk cleanup and disk defragmenter. This may help.

I don't understand all I know about this stuff but can tell you that after I replaced my 13 year old desk top Dell computer with a new HP all in one computer with 2tb Hard Drive and 8GB Memory it is so fast it scares me. I used to be able to drive down to the mailboxes to check my mail while the old Dell was booting up Windows. Now it is instant. I'm using Comcast.
