Default Bad experience with Garage Door ASAP of Leesburg

This past January, my garage door opener stopped opening the garage door. I checked for recommendations and heard good things about ASAP Garage Door and Services. I did a Google search and thought I'd contacted them. I didn't realize that I'd contacted Garage Door ASAP instead, which is an entirely different company. Garage Door ASAP came out and replaced the springs, which apparently had failed. The garage door worked and things seemed good, even if their prices were kind of high.

It's now eight months later and the garage door stopped opening the garage door again. I couldn't find the receipt or any stickers or cards or anything from Garage Door ASAP so I Google again and this time I mistakenly got ASAP Garage Door and Services instead. Their guy came out, pointed out that they were a different company but looked at things anyway as he was going to have to charge me a service call just for coming out. He pointed out that Garage Door ASAP had installed two different springs (there are two in the system and they would normally match) and that neither was strong enough for my heavier door (heavier because it is insulated and has 7 hurricane cross-bars instead of the normal 4). He said that he could replace them with matching, proper level springs while he was there but it would cost several hundred dollars. Interestingly enough, his price was about 40% lower than Garage Door ASAPs. I did a Better Business Bureau search on Garage Door ASAP and found they have a rating of "F". I decided to no longer deal with Garage Door ASAP and ASAP Garage Door and Services go ahead and put in new (and proper) springs.

If you need to replace your garage door springs (or opener or both), make sure that you don't confuse ASAP Garage Door and Services with Garage Door ASAP. The guy from ASAP Garage Door and Services says they've been in business for 20+ years and there are apparently a couple of garage door companies, including Garage Door ASAP, that have opened and used confusingly similar names.

Talk to your neighbor's people, the best advice on service company's is possible right next door because
your neighbors can steer you to the good guys.

I been going this for years, and has saved me a lot money.
You might even make a friend or two.

You know someone in your neighborhood had someone in the pass that a electrical problem, a door replaced,
a leaky sprinkle head, a garage door the doesn't open, bugs in the house etc.etc.

Hmm... They’ve done a great job replacing our cart door opener we use a dozen times a day. Then fixing a spring that broke a few months later on that door.

Our tech was super efficient and knowledgeable.

However, the hardware installed by the developer is not very good. They use plastic bushings and gears, which are not very durable. We upgraded to ball bearings where possible.

Or do a simple search on this forum or your community Facebook page. Romac is another option and reasonable prices. Most people do not realize when they insulate a garage door it will need readjusted for the added weight or depending on how much weight added may need stronger springs.

I had a very similar experience with broken spring and the company replaced with undersized springs for my 18’ wide door. It will open but sometimes it stops before fully open and we have go down and up again. The guy will not return my calls or texts. Stay away from Hometown Garage Doors (Joe) He changes the company name form time to time.

Replacing extension springs is simple. There are plenty of DYI videos. I did mine up north several months ago. Also, MUCH cheaper DYI. Torsion springs are for Pros though.

When I wrote, "I checked for recommendations", I should have written, " I checked for recommendations on Talk of The Villages" as that is what I've been doing for nearly a decade now. But it's worth pointing that out, Michael G!

Thanks, Justputt! However, I worked hard my whole career precisely so that I don't have to work hard now! DYI projects just take me away from golf!
