OK I will admit my ignorance. What is a fair formula for paying a fair tip? I want to impress Mrs. Rubicon with my acumen

Default We are being taken advantage of.

There ARE some good stylists in TV......if you want to pay the price. I think what irks me most about living here is that I feel taken advantage of when getting my hair done. I think the prices are most outrageous! I have mentioned before that my stylist in NY charged 18.00 for a cut, wash and blow dry. If I got color (I always use a cap for my highlights) it was 60.00 including tip!!!! Its the best cut and color I've ever had. Then I came down here, paid 150.00 for the same service, except it wasn't nearly as good of a job. Why do you think they can get the high prices here??? I'm sure they aren't paying so much more for product to charge that much. And the glass of wine of bottle of water shouldn't warrant that price. I guess it's because it's The Villages? I go in with an attitude because I know I'm being over charged but I know I need my hair cut. I have been through 3 hair dressers in the past year and am on my fourth. She does a pretty good job, not exactly what I want but I guess it will, have to do. She charges 40+tip. Needless to say I will probably never get another color here. I will get it once a year when I visit back home. Sorry for my rant but salons here strike a sour note with me.

I've learned over the years that I can have my hair and nails done very cheaply. there's walmart and fantastic sam's and here the school Salon Professionals Academy.
I look bad in flat one-colored hair. Looks ok on some people.
When I look my best, I know it, I feel it, I can do a simple quick brush with the right haircut but without it I struggle and at times am constrained in who I want to see by bad hair. vain, I know. also I'm not good at hair.
It's worth the bucks to me to get a true professional, and Yani is the Man.

Women seem to be divided into 2 camps: those that frequently change hairdressers and those women who have had the same one for years. I'm not sure who will be the happiest or unhappiest when moving to TV. If you frequently change - are you restless, never happy with the haircut or how you look or the price and experience? If you've had the same hairdresser for years - will or can you ever be happy with what a new hairdresser does or charges?
Its a crap-shoot as far as I'm concerned. And every woman wants a different experience when she goes to a hairdresser. Some would like to have a glass of wine and be flirted with. It makes them feel "appealing" and beautiful. Some want a good haircut and color period.

It sounds like many have found nirvana at Colony. Isn't it wonderful to hear such a great story. That is what free enterprise and the American way is all about: find what people want......and provide it. Good customer service will always win.

ha! I was the only one flirting!
..I got a hairdresser I would follow anywhere for his skill and pay his rates gladly, even if Yani were a drudge. thankfully he's also interesting and fun, so I don't have to squirm and grit my teeth waiting for it to be over.

Default Yani, U.S. Citizen!

Yani, born in Albania to Greek parents, became a US citizen on July 4.
He said he is "ecstatic!"
Congratulations on US citizenship to the best hairdresser in The Villages.

There is nothing better than finding someone that can actually give you a haircut that looks good from the start - not after a week and a half of growth. We all have a budget we need to live with which peaks my curiousity as to what you are paying.
and who is she.I am looking

Does this sweet looking hair person have a license to be serving alcoholic beverages in his Salon (Saloon)? If you thinks it's free and therefore OK you might want to consider whether it's included in the $47 a pop you pay him.

I was so shocked when I first moved here. My daughter sent me a gift certificate for Dimensions in Colony, based on what she and I had been paying in New York for cut and color. Well, I had to double the gift with my own money and it wasn't a great haircut.

Roz here,

Thanks for posting the information on Yanni, who has now relocated to LesliJon Salon by Target. He is a superb master hair cutter/stylist and is very personable. The salon is beautiful. I look forward to my next cut.

Default Let's Wake Up!!!

OMG....When are women going to wake up. I originally came from NJ, 30 min. outside of Manhattan. Lived in Boca, Amelia Island and now here. Over 40 years in FL. I've been coloring my long hair for over 40 years and never felt so ripped off. These hair prices are outrageous and we as woman should rebel. People, we are in the middle of FL. I love it here, but hate getting taken advantage off. Nobody's, that good to pay this kind of money HERE.
I have found some one, I think is very good, priced fair and comes from Long Island. I hope you also can stop getting taken advantage of and did need a glass of wine to calm you down when the bill comes.

I would love to know who you use. I, also, am sick of the prices we pay here. I have changed hairdressers often, because it seems as if the first or second cut style is great and then that's it. The prices are crazy. I just spent $100.00 for color and cut, before tip. I find that high, but where to go? Believe it or not, I have had good cuts at the school, along with highlights, but it takes forever to be done. I'm talking like 3-4 hours, at least, with instructor intervention.

I also would like to know who you go to. I have tried many in the pst 10 years here, one I am using now is good but still not 100% liking the cut. I color my own and then get highlites added at a salon. Even in the Chicago area I never paid prices like they have here!
