We stayed with State Farm when we moved here 2 years ago. Easy at the time because of multiple discounts. Just had The Villages Insurance do a quote on ALL of our policies. Thought we could save. We were going to save a little until we realized we would lose our discount. Not worth it. Good policy and service.

I have had Geico since moving here and, in spite of getting quotes, from almost everyone, Geico still remains the cheapest so far. I have not bundled yet but expect to explore that later.

If you are a veteran or member of your family was a veteran you can get very good rates from USAA. Been using them for years and all my children are using USAA.

We have State Farm bundled plus sink hole protection. Kelly Matz 352.661.3456 Home, Auto Insurance & More in FL | Kelly Matz – State Farm(R) They are knowledgeable about The Villages and the coverages you should have for your area. We have been with SF for over 40 years and they have been responsive to all of our needs over that time. Not necessarily the least expensive but provides us with peace of mind.

When looking at sinkhole coverage make sure you are getting the right policy. One policy which is common only covers if your house is condemned. An $80,000 driveway hole will be denied. A few questions on the front end could be worthwhile.

TOTV site guidelines are that you must have a minimum of ten posts to recommend or criticize a business or service. If you have posted a recommendation on this thread and it doesn’t appear, that is the reason.

I agree. This is a very confusing issue that even some insurance agents cannot explain. I understand that all homeowners policies in Florida must cover "catastophic ground collapse" which covers damage to your house. However, "sinkhole" insurance is an optional item of coverage that does not require damage to your house, but only damage to your property to collect benefits. The main thing to look for is the word "sinkhole" written on your policy document. If it doesn't say "sinkhole", you probably have the standard "catastrophic ground collapse" Florida policy.

I know some people will disagree, but one way to save money on auto insurance is to drop the uninsured motorist coverage. About 20 states require this coverage, but, in Florida, it is optional. When I examined the coverage, I found that it almost completely overlaps the medical and liability insurance that myself and any potential passengers in my car already have. I am particularly concerned that, if you have the coverage, you must use your auto insurance to cover a medical bill before you can use your Medicare and/or private health insurance. I have not paid for uninsured motorist insurance since moving to Florida.

We have been really happy with the pricing and service from Kin Insurance, an all virtual (phone and internet) company. That said, I’ve never had a substantial claim, but they are super easy to do business with in every way.

Join AARP for a nominal fee. They carry Hartford Ins for seniors which is the cheapest & best of all. After 1 month, you cannot be dropped. Nominal yearly increases. Do not call the regular Hartford Ins, only Hartford through AARP. The Villages Home Ins (352)751-6622. Most insurance companies will not insure FL.
