Default Home Warranty

My wife and I purchased a home here in the Villages, and will close at the end of July. So I went on the website for Choice Home Warranty, to research their policies/rates. Within one minute of logging on, I got the first telephone call. Ok, so they are a bit aggressive. I explained my situation, and suggested they call me back in the middle of July, but right now I am just doing research. An hour later, I received another call, and the first email. At this point I specifically requested they stop further calls/emails. Over the next two days, I received multiple calls and emails, and each time I requested they stop calling/emailing. More than 5 of each. Today, I get the call from the same number. I answered, and they immediately hung up. Now it is getting to be harassment.
My thinking is that if this is how they treat potential customers, what is their attitude toward someone who has already given them their money?
Maybe I'm being picky. But the other companies I contacted made their first call, and have honored my request of no contact. One of those companies will be getting my business.

IMHO, there have been a few reports (sites like consumer reports, etc.) that indicate home warranties are not a good purchased, just like many extended warranties. Also, you need to very carefully check to see who THEY call for the repairs and how SOON they call. There have been many complaints that say your A/C goes out, and you do not get service man for 2 or 3 days or longer. If you self insure, you get your service person that day. When I looked at these I found way too many disadvantages, look very carefully at the fine print. Hope this helps, sorry for the aggressive nature of the company you contacted, be sure you block their number and emails.

So you bought a pre-owned home. Right? That would be the only reason to contact Choice Home Warranty. Good luck.

Do yourself a favor, and don't buy a home warranty at all. You are much better off paying for home repairs out of pocket. If you have an issue, you will probably get slow service, a second rate contractor, and a lot of things will not be covered. Also, often a broken appliance should be replaced, not repaired. But, you will not have that option because the home warranty company will repair anything that can be repaired. You will never get a good, reputable repair company because good companies don't need to pay for referrals from a home warranty company. So, if your HVAC system fails, you may need to wait several days for a second rate contractor from out of town to show up, when you could have it fixed by a first class company the same day. Just my opinion.

Correct. We've been here for about 15 months as renters. We love our neighborhood, and wanted to stay here. We could almost do the move on foot, we will be that close.

Very expensive insurance IMHO. Buy insurance for things that will financially cripple you such as life, home or car insurance.

Deal direct with responsible and responsive vendors and buy good quality appliances that rarely need service and in the long run you will be way ahead.
