Default Mailboxes not being removed-ha!

From Facebook....

"My mom went to drop off her mail at the mailbox she’s used for *decades* and found the site blocked off. The mailboxes are being ripped out. She’s 85. This is how she pays her bills. She knows this is deliberate."

Yep, not being removed...just locked.

Not only are mailboxes under siege — also mail-sorting machines are being removed from branches across the country.

I have heard people say, “Oh, but those sorting machines are outdated.”

When I ask, “If those machines are suddenly so outdated and need to be removed, what would be the big deal about waiting just a little longer — you know, like maybe after the first of the year — and with a plan to replace them — so the PO would not be left completely hamstrung and flailing for the rest of 2020?”

Seems like, I can never get an answer from the excusers.

Do they not answer me because they are complicit?

Or do they not answer because they are so used to buying into egregious maneuvers that they are numb to what is happening right under their noses?

Or do they not answer because they have fallen hook, line, and sinker for whatever their favorite television channel plants in their brains?

Or is a hijacked amygdala their problem?

Or do they think it’s just fine to wipe one’s behind with the Constitution?

Whatever it is — I cannot seem to get an answer from the excusers as to why the timing of the attack on the PO must be NOW?

Hmmmm, whatever could it be?

Why can’t those who blithely excuse this transparent attack on the PO answer my simple question, — “Why now?”

Yep! The local P.M of my hometown removed the mailbox from the end of my street in 1963 I believe - and it never was replaced! Had to walk a mile into town to mail letters to my friends in college since carriers did not take outgoing mail st homes back then!

As the need for a box decreases it is removed. Been going on for years. But she could avoid the walk an put her outgoing letter in the box she receives her mail in and the post office will deliver it to who ever she sent it too. All I can verify is that I put my mail in the same box that I receive the mail in and it works.

Living in Va the nearest box was about a mile away.

All mailboxes came with a red flag that you would flip up when you had outgoing mail and the carrier would take it back. Very easy.

No question that the model of the post office is very broken and has been for years.

Part of it is a mandate from the govt including funding pensions for a ridiculous amount of time as well as underpricing services like delivering packages for Amazon< No way can they make a profit doing next day delivery including weekends.

First class mail is way down and will continue to decrease based on the world we live in and lets face it 55 cents for a stamp is too little.

At some point they do have to fix this, why not now?

Newman is available and according to the Peter principle is available to undertake the task.

PS: Lets see if anyone gets the reference.

We're fortunate in TV that we can drop off outgoing letters when we pick up our incoming mail...and the folks that deliver to our mail boxes always show up and are great people

When we lived up north we were in a rural farming community with about 1700 voters (but close to the interstate hwys)...we all had mailboxes with red flags...the delivery person picked up and dropped off mail. The post office closed for lunch between 11:30am and 12:30pm daily....in the spring, they'd designate one day to give out fresh strawberry shortcake to anyone that stopped in....you walked in and you were greeted by first name....it was like "Cheers" everybody knew your name (and your business...lol). The only 'blue' mail boxes in town were outside the post office....

when we lived in Ft Lauderdale one of the carriers serving our area was fired....at 2:30pm whatever mail she hadn't delivered she threw away, because she needed to get to her second job and apparently you couldn't come back to the PO with undelivered mail. Bad help is easy to find.

I guess both sides like conspiracy theories.

Not only that but if things stay the same we will be blaming the USPS for four years.

I retired at the end of 2018 from USPS with 30 years....just so you know...mail volume has fallen drastically since 2008...first class mail has almost bottomed out...the machines that you speak of-- DBCS (Delivery Bar Code Sorters) are ancient and are extremely expensive to operate due to parts breaking down---belts, bearings, and rollers--thousands for each machine (I worked on all of these as an electronic technician)...on top of the maintenance you have more than 90 percent of those operating the machines truly do not care about whether the mail gets out or not....as for the mailboxes--if the lock on the bottom is damaged or the drop lid malfunctions, USPS will put a lockout on the box until someone from the outside shop can actually pick the box up.

Over 12,000 mail collection boxes were removed between 2011 and 2016. Yet somehow these few that are now being removed are a deliberate attempt by President Trump to destroy the Post Office.

Boxes are being removed because, with the advent of email, online banking and other technological advances there is less and less need for physical mail.

It's been going on for a long time.
