It’s happening now. Totalitarianism is knocking on the door.

I read that someone is calling for the destruction 'white' statues of Jesus...if that happens, these nut jobs will have completely gone off the rail... pull down just one religious statue and those of us that have been standing on the sidelines with our mouths open in total disbelief will no longer remain on the sidelines

this needs to stop now
Jesus wasn't white.

The big question being, why are so many white folks with strong religious beliefs "standing on the sidelines"...in the first place?

I'm sick of every group you can imagine claiming they have special rights. In the Bill of Rights we have the right to pursue happiness, .....not have it. I'm tired of hearing whining from the L's, the G's, B's, T's, and now the Q's, under-privileged, blacks, whites, yellows, reds, house bounded, ...... whatevers. Just make the most of what you've got and do your best to be a better person. If you don't like what you've got, who you are, where you are, then change and be glad you can. Everyone is part of some minority group with its own individual problems. There is a great statement from the deceased Robert Schuller, "Turn your stumbling blocks into stepping stones." Try it. It works. ......and have a great day!

Lest we forget, blacks were NOT included in the COTUS/BOR or in the statement of... "We, the people."

Which is why their "pursuit", against those who prefer they not succeed...continues.

Third, taking both first and second responses into consideration, I do still believe that, in some cases, the removal of certain words because someone finds them offensive could eventually, if taken to excess, limit discourse that is necessary.
I have known girls/women who were named "Dixie". Think of how greatly demanding they change their names, names given by loving parents, might offend them, their family's and friends. How does this add positively to the much needed conversation. And, this is only one of the many examples that could be shown.
As for the "250 years of oppression", there is no denying that injustice is a sad stain on the fabric of our nation's history. It has left a scar on us all. But it is time to look up from that scar and focus on the future and acknowledge the positive advancements since those times and look forward to a better and brighter future.
Living with hate, dwelling on the past and continually picking at the scar of past injustices will only reopen old wounds and aggravate all sides.
Are things not better today than in those old days? Have things not changed? I think so, but I also believe there is much left to do.
So, do you want to work together to improve things for all? Or do you want to continue living with anger because you can't let go othe ugly past and squabble over details like the name "Dixie"?
I choose a peaceful future together.
Good post. Ending paragraph was great. Words to live by!

Good humor. Not offensive.

I remember a restaurant that was called Sambo's that was forced to change it's name. The name was derived from the parts of the names of the two partners, Samuel and Bo-(something). It had nothing to do with any race or ethnicity, but it was forced to change because of some folks being offended by the name. Amazing how sensitive and weak some folks appear when it comes to perceptions. Or, maybe some just need an excuse to scratch the healing scab?

This ain't Germany. This is America and we do things differently. Germany LOST the war and we won. We dictate the rules. Offensive? Not my problem.

Without judging the right or wrong of "cancel culture", I was thinking about Northern "indentured servants". The North is still proud of its OLD heritage. Why should NOT the South be? Both N and S had historic warts.
I suppose that most of that answer is because-the side that wins controls the history. Suppose that Native Americans won the North American continent, would we be speaking in Iroquois or Apache?

Correct and thank you for your service. I would add to the divide and conquer thought that Russian hackers are hard at work doing that as we type.

WINN-DIXIE SUPERMARKETS
CONSIDER CHANGING 95-YEAR-OLD NAME ...
After George Floyd's Death

One of the largest supermarket chains based in the Southeast is considering dropping its name after nearly 100 years ... a move triggered by the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Sources at Winn-Dixie tell TMZ ... the supermarket chain -- billed as a southern heritage brand serving Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi -- is considering changing its name because, just like The Chicks, it deems the term "Dixie" as problematic due to ties to the old south and its way of thinking.

The Dixie Chicks Changed Their Name Because The Word 'Dixie' Is Problematic
They're now simply "The Chicks."

TMZ report: Winn-Dixie considering new name | Jax Daily Record | Jacksonville Daily Record - Jacksonville, Florida
Winn-Dixie could just become Winn Supermarkets. But what about Dixie Cups. Could they just become Cups? Could Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice just be Converted Rice, or would that be an unconstitutional establishment of religion?

Eskimo Pies is changing it’s name to something else. Maybe First Nations Pies or Inuit Pies? I hear that the Village of Chitty Chatty gets its name from a swamp named after an Indian Chief. Is that acceptable? Perhaps it should change its name to the Village of Chatty Cathy! Wawa Markets gas station says the name comes from a Native American word for Canadian geese. I think it comes from a one year old’s word for water. Will Pontiac, named after an Indian Chief, change its name to, say, General Motors? Or was General Motors actually a Confederate General?

I hear the U.S. Mint is suing the rapper Fifty Cents over his appropriation of that name. His attorney says the U.S. Mint should rename the Fifty Cents coin Fifty Cents in his honor and put his likeness on it or face a countersuit.

South bashing IS a little rediculous from Villiage People who live in the South-last I looked.

In my humble opinion, some things have changed for the better. Still, there exists bias based on race, religion, gender, culture. Again, I have seen it and felt it. Perhaps you never have.
The leaders of our country, elected, appointed, of various faiths that can understand the many problems in our nation need to sit down calmly and peacefully begin to address this issue of bias that, deep down, affects us all, whether we know it or not.
When you ask questions like, "such as what exactly", I ask myself if you really want an answer, or is that an attempt at a put down.
We all have opinions based on our teaching, at home, in church or synagogue, in school, the work place, etc. Everyone's opinion is valid based on their life experience. That said, we cannot actually walk in another's shoes, but we can at least try to imagine what it might be like before we just brush off other opinions.
Keep talking. Keep searching. Keep learning. Keep an open mind.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Peace!
Good last paragraph.

Well, violence in the name of Jesus would be so constructive. That probably needs further pondering.
