![]() If nothing else though, the continued threads denigrating blacks and the tone deafness to what racism/bigotry/prejudice is and does and those who support it...is very illuminating. Nothing like folks speaking up and removing all doubt...as to what they are and how they feel. ![]() |

This is all so ridiculous and such a shame. The black community has set back their cause 50 years!

Bashing the South makes me sick. The South and names like Dixie have a certain charm. We live in a sick society that takes that away from us. People like to tour the South for its charm, uniqueness, and history. Taking that away hurts businesses and Americans. We are being treated the way the Nazis treated the Jews: constant ridicule; taking away possessions, culture, religion, history, monuments, names; and called racial slurs like white supremacists on a daily basis. Businesses that support this racism make me want to vomit.

Plenty of Black people work and shop at Winn Dixie and have for a hundred years, so changing the name is racist bull sh—.

Me thinks thou lacks imagination, vision, empathy or the ability to even begin to try to comprehend. I could write volumes of minutiae detailing what I think needs to be done and how to implement it. I am not the one to do that. I am only one person, one voice and one mind. But I have lived with, worked with and served with people of many different backgrounds, colors, faiths, so, although I don' t have and can't have all the answers, I can say that I have seen discrimination and reverse discrimination and witnessed the effects of unequal opportunity. I'm pretty sure you have too, but did you recognize it?
In my humble opinion, some things have changed for the better. Still, there exists bias based on race, religion, gender, culture. Again, I have seen it and felt it. Perhaps you never have. The leaders of our country, elected, appointed, of various faiths that can understand the many problems in our nation need to sit down calmly and peacefully begin to address this issue of bias that, deep down, affects us all, whether we know it or not. When you ask questions like, "such as what exactly", I ask myself if you really want an answer, or is that an attempt at a put down. We all have opinions based on our teaching, at home, in church or synagogue, in school, the work place, etc. Everyone's opinion is valid based on their life experience. That said, we cannot actually walk in another's shoes, but we can at least try to imagine what it might be like before we just brush off other opinions. Keep talking. Keep searching. Keep learning. Keep an open mind. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Peace! Last edited by fdpaq0580; 06-27-2020 at 09:39 AM. Reason: Was incomplete. |

More needs to be said about Blacks taking members of other Black tribes as slaves in Africa and their participation in the slave trade. Is this true, has it been swept under the carpet?

I haven't heard of any plans to change the name of Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg. It opened in '59 and was named after a person, the superintendent of schools at the time. They removed the confederate flag a few years ago from the football team's helmets, but they're still called the Rebels. I was suppose to go there after my parents moved in '66, but I had already attended the 10th grade at St. Petersburg High, so they let me finish there, although many of friends and neighbors were going there. It was kind of weird having friends at two high schools.

these mobs have totally lost their way and all those that are 'bending' to this craziness by renaming companies, or products are allowing themselves to be bullied. Renaming something, or taking down a statue isn't going to help a black family educate their kids, pay their mortgage, buy a decent car, put food on their table. But it will continue to polarize our country...and that is what this
is now about I read that someone is calling for the destruction 'white' statues of Jesus...if that happens, these nut jobs will have completely gone off the rail... pull down just one religious statue and those of us that have been standing on the sidelines with our mouths open in total disbelief will no longer remain on the sidelines this needs to stop now |

I’ve heard they are considering changing ‘The Masters’ golf tournament in Augusta GA. It’s supposed to be about being a ‘master’ at golf and NOTHING more. But in this world now, people will find issues with just about anything
