Early on it was a hypothesis that the primary vector of infection would be surface contamination and not airborne transmission. When research found airborne transmission was the primary route of infection, public health recommendations were updated to reflect research findings and research continued along the lines that looked promising.
Science is a process of learning through the testing of hypothesis, it is not a crystal ball providing instant and infallible answers. Doctor Fauci is trying to provide the best current public health guidelines based on ongoing and evolving research of a new and novel virus that we have only been researching for months. He has decades of proven expertise in this, but good science takes time and is going to lead to needed changes in public health recommendations as the understanding of COVID19 grows and the virus mutates.

This is something anyone who's ever taken a science course in public school would know. You can't even blame it on "getting too old to remember this stuff" because Dr. Fauci is 80 and he has no problem remembering.

When this entire situation was in its infancy I remember telling my wife that instead of trying to follow all the advisers on television lets boil it down to two people. We picked Fauci and Dr Mark Siegel.

As time went on we noticed that Fauci seemed to Waffle on many different items that he was supposed to be advising the American People on. He lost our attention when he proved to be about as Stable As Jello. He is either a very confused person or he delivers very confusing messages.

I wish him no harm but I wouldn't mind seeing some new blood in his position. Maybe someone who could reenergize the effort to make some major progress.

I don't know that Fauci acting differently at a ballgame or in front of the camera would have made one bit of difference. I just drove past two different adult pools and they were jammed with people.

So, if Faucci represents "Science", that's fine - but just as important to the Medical HEALTH of US citizens is Financial Health and Emotional Health. I don't believe that he takes everything into consideration for us all in terms of OVERALL Health.

as far as Fauci waiting on recommending vaccinated grandparents should hug their grandchildren - recent research " suggests" (?) that they would NOT spread it to their grandkids. But it is NOT CONCLUSIVELY proven. That would take more time and tests. Fauci can't give an opinion because people look to him for definitive answers and the CV situation is NOT DEFINITIVE - it is evolving. There are even some small cases of fully vaccinated adults re-acquiring CV. That could happen from asymptomatic children even. That is why the CDC guidance says to continue to take precautions (masks and distancing) Fauci can NOT go against that guidance until CV is totally understood and fought to a standstill. People HOPE for everything to be normal, but there is STILL a long way to go. Letting your guard down will make things worse, not better.
