Ladies do you realize your 15 yr old granddaughters will be able to buy a "morning after pill" probably in their drugstores (without parental consent) next to the bubble gum and batteries and I can't even buy a box of Claritin (for my allergies) as a senior without showing proof of my age??
What is happening to our "morals" as a society?? Get your children involved and tell them its not OK. they need to voice their opinions. 15 yr old children should NOT be having sex. |

Leave this up to the parents to guide, grandparents should pause and step back from this one.

....it is a sad commentary about our society for sure. Also sad how little support you have gotten on this one.
When I worked as a phone nurse at OB/Gyn, this pill was an rx, I would get the calls and let someone else take care of it.

Just ask one of its strongest proponents, Sarah Palin, how that worked out in her own family. ![]() As to the pill, I see it as being a better alternative to a 15 year old ruining her life having a child.... or getting an abortion. .

I agree with OnTrack. As parents it is OUR responsible to teach our children, not just girls, about sex and hope they make the right choices. Just because the Plan B pill is available doesn't necessarily mean they will start having sex.

Not fond of Sarah Palin at all. Our "kids" now 45 and 42 were raised in the more old fashioned way by us and luckily things worked out just fine.........no surprises as teens, in fact they both were open with me when at college age they met someone, etc. HOWEVER, we as parents were shocked when Planned Parenthood muscled in on our high school kids back in the early 1980's I guess....actually Jr. High (middle school) with explicit sex education about how to put a condom on a banana, etc.........all the parents were upset. Now, we hear from our peers and our adult children.........that most teen girls in high school, about age 16, are encouraged to go on birth control pills. Not teaching abstinance up here, that's for sure. I felt the same way the original poster felt when I read about the morning after pill for the kids............sad commentary on today's society. Funny, but no one really gave any of us "sex education" in the late 1950's or the early 1960's and yet we just "knew" to wait..........of course, we all got married young, had our families young.........and most of us have survived intact with a nice family of adult children, their spouses and wonderful grandchildren as our reward...........but that was a different era. |

All of us reading this could never agree.
I love my grandchildren and being a human know how strong emotions can be and how strong the sex urge is and when I look at a stadium full of people I know how each of them was conceived. I try very hard to teach the principals that I believe in and also deal with the reality of life and the way normal people behave ...and I talk to them and talk to them and talk to them because they like me and care what I think. I don't want any subject to be off limits and I started talking to them about sex very early as did their parents. I know that drinking and driving, having sex unprotected and not taking care of money responsibly can really derail your life SUBSTANTIALLY and unalterably in some cases. So I concentrated on those subjects. Although right is right and wrong is wrong the world has changed quite a bit since we were children and our grandchildren are living in a changed world. No matter how much we want to trust in our own decision making and that of our children, hormones are working hard to keep the world populated with humans. I think this is something that we will never agree on, all of us. We have to do and think and teach what we think is right.

My parents, who would be well over 100 years old now, were they still living........never discussed sex with us; neither did my husband's mom. She'd just tell him to kneel down and say his prayers (when he got back from a date with me). Now, our daughter who was born in 1968 after three years of marriage, was a very precocious child. I still remember when a local doctor in town was giving a "talk" on how to teach the little ones about sex.......it was held at the Episcopalian church in town and all of us young parents went. Our son was almost about to be born; so this was 1971. Daughter was three years old. Son to arrive very soon.......... The doctor advised all of us to tell the children from the youngest age (his own kids were the same age as ours)........the facts about how babies are conceived, how they are born......etc. He said we should all use the proper words. So we did........we went home and told her everything........ Next day we had all the neighbors calling us, laughing.......saying she had gone around and chatted up the folks telling them just how baby had gotten into mommy and how he was going to exit.........she didn't know he was a boy yet as there were no tests for sex determination in 1971....but she got it down pat.......and was very natural about it. She's a great mom now to three grandchildren of ours.......... We just used some "advice" from experts......but mostly our own common sense. We were a tight knit family unit (as all our relatives lived out of state) so we spent a lot of time nurturing our brood.....and it paid off. We never had nannies or mothers helpers like they do today. I took my job as mom very seriously..........and it all turned out well. P.S. I'll say it again as I've said it before...........t.v. was not violent like it is today.......they lived in a safe little town and we had peaceful lives with no commuting. Their era was THE WALTONS and LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.............it was a simpler lifestyle when they were children and teens..........it's different now. |

p.s. to above post.
I'd think the highest compliment our kids paid to us is when they each sent us a letter when they were each exactly juniors in college. They had lived away at the university since age 17..........both of them, in different wording........thanked us for all we had done for them.......for "staying together" (as many of their friends' parents were split up)......for having a happy home life for them.......just the little things they mentioned.......and for supporting their dreams........it meant a lot to me. They did the same thing again, after they had graduated from grad school with their masters........and were getting married.........thanked us and said that what they were at that moment was because of us.........it doesn't get any more rewarding than that. Now both daughter and son have families of their own and are raising very active , intelligent and friendly children...........some say it "takes a village" but I think a mom and a dad together mean a lot. Our son , when in high school, would come to me (not his dad) to discuss girls he was dating.......etc., etc..........I had an easy rapport with both daughter and son. Re sex or anything else. |

This emotional reaction to the availability of the morning after pill appears to be unrelated to its actual use. Obviously the pill would only be used after intercourse occurred. The pill will be used to prevent pregnancy. It does not encourage sexual activity, contraception is already widely available. There are many reasons to use protection, pregancy being only one.

Frankly, you can teach your kids til your blue in the face, but they are immersed in a sexual culture that speaks so loudly you may find your voice drowned out. I can't understand how we adults have allowed all facets of media to overwhelm our children with an avalanche of smut. Then we all complain about our promiscuous youth and their lack of standards.

and we allow the classes being brought into the schools. Do you know in Lake county now they will have a "gay-straight" club?? What next, the condom club.?? parents should be involved in what is going on. And having a morning after pill is just encouraging them to have sex. 15 is still a baby. Babies should NOT be having babies.
