It helped one of my visitors explaining to treat the roundabout like a two lane street.

Yield to traffic in the roundabout.

No left turn from the right lane.

No right turn from the left lane.

Expect the unexpected...

Good grief. With all the hand wringing and pear clutching, one would think that there's an accident every day in the roundabouts. Fact is, there are more accidents at traffic lights in TV, 2 deadly ones within the last few months.

With a little help GOOGLE
While roundabouts may have more fans in Europe, they're actually rooted in the United States. The basic shape goes all the way back to the 1790s, when architect and engineer Pierre L'Enfant proposed a number of circular intersections in Washington, D.C.'s street layout, including the famous Dupont Circle [source: Waddell]. American businessman William Eno revived the form in 1905 for New York City's Columbus Circle, widely considered the country's first circular intersection designed for the automobile era [source: FHWA, "Roundabouts: An Informational Guide"].

Along those lines, I'm glad I didn't have to stop to be a witness of a MVA that almost happened the other day. Morse and Pinellas RB, the eastbound Pinellas exit has 2 lanes. Two cars took both lanes, side by side, and the car on the right pulled the classic suicide move. He went 270 around in the outer lane while the inner lane car proceeded straight onto Moyer. Not only did they miss each other by 2-3 feet, but based on their reaction (meaning lack thereof), I don't think either of them saw the other.

Best vehicle to navigate RBs----M1A1 Abrams tank
They don’t know either, have lawn service guy a ticket when lady turned right into his truck. She was making a turn into a gate from left lane. She must have been somebody, cop said she had right to turn right from left lane. Thinking Leo needs a class

Part of they problem here is they are designed to minimize pavement resulting in punish lment of anyone not staying in lane.

There is no shoulder space on either side and the curbs are vertical. Other places have shoulder pavement.

Off topic: How many people have been killed in golf carts that flip when hitting the vertical curbs?

On topic: You're supposed to stay in your lane.

Default Roundabouts and routing

There's actually a "handout" on how to drive on the roundabouts given out during Village Orientation. Perhaps a class, webinar, flyer with rentals etc. could be initiated to help the periodic visitors, snowbirds or all birds to drive appropriately. Probably the greatest source of accidents on roundabouts, I guess. I know that the winter season brings a great deal of irritation for many, me included, when the rules of the road (here in Florida) are abused or not followed.

Rules not followed by some………….year round.

BTW if you enjoy reading about round-a-bouts, do a search there are hundreds of posts by Village experts. Repeated over and over!

You might want to look into that. Exiting car has the right of way.

Not true. The older signs in the more northern parts of the Villages have signs that don't show proper lane use but instead just show the street names.

Nope... They were designed to maximize traffic flow...

John Stossel did an interesting piece on them a few years back...

Think of the problem when the two lane road becomes one lane as it enters the roundabout.

Treat the roundabouts like any two lane intersection. Do you ever turn right from the left lane?
