3,5 woods, 4,6 hybrids, irons start at 7, and wedges are 52, 56, and 60 degree.
The 6 hybrid is wicked cool. . . since i can't hit a 4,5 or 6 iron any farther than a 7 iron And as much I visualize the shot prior to my swing, I will always be a high handicapper |

Agree with that ! Hybrids are so much easier to hit for this duffer. But, I do like to use my Driver, 3, 7, AND 5 wood on championship courses... LOL. And the old locker room phrase, "only God can hit a 2 iron...LOL

So your irons date back to the 50’s?

I rarely use the 3 wood. Thee lie has to be really good. The 5 wood is my favorite club. It’s the oldest club in my bag at about 14 years. I use it mostly for 2nd shots on par 5s; anything 200 yards or more. The hybrids can be pretty versatile in that I will sometimes use them for a putt from off the green that needs a lot of roll. I used to like a 5 iron but the set I had made included the two hybrids and sand wedge through 6 iron. I haven’t mastered any of my clubs and the hybrids are last in that regard 😎 I do love this game regardless! |

My favorite club is a chipper. It looks like a putter, but has some loft. Great for shots from a few feet off the green.

My hybrids are my wonder clubs, “Wonder where that ball is going?” So I’m old school, 3 and/or 5 wood every time.

To me you can buy a thousand dollar club because the company claims you can hit the ball 50 yrs. Further. But I think it depends on the person behind the club. I also think the company that makes the golf club doesn’t know how the person buying the club has the correct swing. Pro’s have everything down perfect. I’m sure a pro could take my grandpa’s clubs & outhit me even if I used the best clubs in the world! I say don’t waste your money with a dream!

Ha! I bought my irons (3 through wedges) sometime in the 1980s. They were a knock-off of the "newest" Ping clubs with square grooves. "Getting fitted" meant adding a three-inch extension to the shaft, because I'm a tall man. Still playing them today, and they work fine.
I figure spending a couple of thousand dollars on new clubs isn't going to do a whole lot when my swing still doesn't meet the ball squarely. Instead of spending money on clubs, I'm spending it on driving range balls. Lot cheaper and more effective; I've brought my score down about 15 strokes. |

The 3 wood is the hardest club in the bag to hit.......for men and women, loft is about 15 degrees for men and a womens 3 wood loft is actually a 5 wood. With nice grassy lies they work, but, not very often. The less loft you have the more speed you need. Your best bet is a hybrid 3 or a tight lies 3. Lower center of gravity makes it easier to get up in the air. However, if you want to hit a 3 wood off the tee it works. Again, its a loft speed thing. Stay will a hybrid 3 or tight lie so you can see the number 3. You obviously miss that number.

I use a 3 Hybrid in place of a 3 wood. Not quite the same distance but more consistent. I went many rounds without even using my 3 wood when it was in the bag. Rarely miss it.
