Default Golf Buddy vs Sky Caddie

I am considering purchasing either a golf buddy or sky caddie. Can someone tell me the advantages of each if you have compared them. Thanks.

Golf Buddy all the way. It has thousands of courses loaded into it and it talks to you. You can wear it on wrist of clip it onto hat. Only problem here is that when you go to an executive course that has others right near it (Pimilco, Churchill, Belmont, etc) it has a bit of trouble locating exactly which course you are at until you actually get to the first tee. You really don't need it on exec courses, but it's great on championship courses.

Have had both and for my money it's golf buddy hands down. Holds thousands of courses as opposed to 10 or 20 for the sky caddy. And there's no annual fee for the golf buddy. Sky caddy was costing me $30-50 per year depending on whether I wanted access to all US courses or just those in a single state.

Have had both and enjoy NOT downloading and paying annual fee plus skycaddie boasts accuracy over other GPS but I've been on a tee with 3 other skycaddie owners and EVERYONE had a different yardage, some by as much as 10 yards...

Currently I have the Skycaddie SG5 and I do like it. But I would eventually like to get away from the $30 yearly fee and the 18 course limit. Over the last year I have twice used a demo Golf Buddy Platinum II and done a side by side comparison. I did find that the screen on my Skycaddie was easier to see and the Golf Buddy would go into a battery saver mode after a few seconds. That was annoying to have to keep touching that screen to see the distances. During Golffest I did chat with the Golf Buddy rep and told him the only thing keeping me from changing was that battery saver function. At least if I could change the setting on it to a higher option that would be fine. For now I plan on staying with the Skycaddie for a bit more.

There are demo units at the various country clubs that you can sign out and try. From time to time Golf Buddy and Skycaddie have announced demo days at the courses with displays and reps to talk to.

I like the ease of use for the golf buddy.

My Golf Buddy is great. I played a course yesterday that I had not been to in years. It had two 18 courses. I simply turned my buddy on at the first tee and away we went. No downloading or fooling around.

Default Sky Caddie

If you upgrade to SGX it holds 50 courses and has 18,000 pre loaded which you can access without an annual fee

I have a Bushnell, and seems to be the same as others. I play with guys that have Golf Buddy or Skycaddie, and all 3 are within a few yds for accuracy. Downloading is the problem!! Should be able to go to any golf course and "bingo" the course is in there!!

I don't recommend either. I do however prefer a laser. I have been using the the Bushnell Tour V2 for a few years and see the benefits over a gps device. I say give both a try and see which you prefer.

If you have a smart phone I recommend the app skydroid. There is a one time fee of $1.99 the system works great. Link below.

SkyDroid - Golf GPS
