Some folks are proud that they're able to pour a cup of coffee, without spilling it.

It's all a matter of accomplishment. In golf, knocking a 20 yard shot in the hole, isn't such a great accomplishment. It's akin to getting a "participation trophy", because you made a Little League team, even though you weren't good enough to actually play in a real game.

I saw a post on this site, earlier this week, talking about people who got their name in the newspaper for P&P Hole in Ones, Eagles & shooting their age. If you want to celebrate with the folks in your group, because you made an Eagle, go for it. It's not enough of an accomplishment, to warrant public acclaim in my opinion.

There are plenty of us golfers here in TV, who fairly regularly shoot their age from Blue & Gold Tees and Eagles are an every day occurrence.

Let's see----I'm going to define a "hole in one" as making a 1-foot putt. So, I've had thousands of them. Maybe more if I was putting to a 12-inch hole. Do you consider that "an achievement"? If not, then how about 5 feet, or 10, or 50? 30 yards? 40? 50? I feel there has to be some dividing line, even if arbitrary, where a shot that is otherwise routine or expected becomes something special, "an achievement" if you will. Maybe we could debate as to how far that is, and I'm not ever going to consider a 12-inch hole. But to my mind it should not be 60 yards with a skulled driver-- after all that is just a lack of skill with a lot of luck.

I don't think most pros find that making a 60 yard shot is routine or expected.

According to this article, record for the shortest hole in one is 70 yards. I don't believe it was on tour.

From that second citation:

What Constitutes an Official Hole in One?
According to the United States Golf Association (USGA), an official hole in one must meet specific criteria:

Proper Round: The hole in one must occur during a round of golf played under USGA rules.

Standard Teeing Ground: The ball must be played from a standard teeing ground.

Direct Shot: The ball must go directly into the hole from the tee with no penalties.

From what I've seen over 11 years in TV, that first criterion should probably exclude about 99.9% of the holes in one recorded in The Villages.

The odds of an average golfer making a 60' putt, is a bit under 1%. Your time will come.

The odds are about 300:1

Not routine, but not really worthy of worldwide acclaim or HOF induction.

From my friend Mark Baldwin, this is the appropriate celebration when you toss in a Wedge from 130 on July 4th. He did make the ESPN Weekend Sports Highlight show. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=401391493809714

As I've said way too many times, characterizing most "golfers" in TV or the Executive & P&P's as "golf courses", is an misnomer of gargantuan proportions.

This will be the 5th year I've left TV to go North with an Index of 5 or below and within 2 months, I'll be back to 8, where I belong. Maybe my clubs only work well in Florida?

That is for the “average” golfer. I think I am below average!
