Thumbs down BUYER BEWARE: Logan’s Landscaping

BUYER BEWARE. I recently hired Logan’s Landscaping to install Large chinese Palms and bamboo in our yard. Very nice guy until he gets your money. Our plants started dying almost immediately. He first response was that I was not watering enough, then I was watering too much, then it was just too must dust in the air. From one excuse to another. He begrudgingly came out and replace four plants. Followed by replacing two more. After that he went off the hook. This guy is angry, belligerent, insulting, threatening. Followed by him sending me many many insulting texts over a two day period. I never replied, but he kept sending them. I tried to pleasantly work with this gentleman but it is obvious that he has no interest in doing that. After digging around the plants I have now found that he and his crew never dug a proper size hole, never installed fertilizer and soil around the root ball. He stuck these plants directly into a sand pit then covered it all with rock, got the check and fled. I believe that being caught he knew he had no ground to stand on and needed to create a scene to refuse further service or warranty. After a month, he still has my money and I have the dead and dying plants. As a very new resident in The Villages I have learned my lesson. Talk to people who have been here for some time, get their referrals. If someone knocks at your door trying to sell you, your best bet is a polite “thank you” take their brochure and throw it away.

You may have dodged a bullet on the bamboo, please do some research on this plant as it tends to be invasive very hard to control and very hard to remove. Also, it tends to be fast growing, and to spreads.

I'll chime in and agree on the demeanor of Logan. In my case, the plants survived so I don't have the issue of the OP, but there was one minor point of contention we had in the process and the description of angry, belligerent and insulting are 100% in line with my experience. It's really too bad because in my case, the work and results were something with which I was happy, but I'm not able/willing to recommend them because of the customer facing obstacles he puts in his own way. There are just too many others to work with so I would steer clear.

Actually there are 2 categories, running and clumping. Running bamboo is the invasive, hard to control, spreading type and clumping is great if you need a fence/barrier for privacy for the fact they do grow fast but clumping doesn’t “run” and get out of control. Anyone getting bamboo should definitely go with a specialist who can recommend the correct type. I did my entire yard in bamboo in CA to block an Apartment building going up behind my house. It was fantastic but I did use specific Bamboo landscapers.

We have had clumping bamboo in our garden for years.
Never a problem.
