There are 'standard' lens covered by Medicare, and then there are several upscale lens and variations that are not fully covered. From my research some of these have side effects that people were not happy with. Also, there are some eye problems that cannot be corrected with new lens, specifically if you need a prism or if you have astigmatism, I have both so I went with the standard lens corrected for distance, and glasses for reading and these two corrections. I have been wearing glasses since age 11 so it was not a big deal to continue. I have 20/15 for distance without my glasses, and about the same for everything else with my glasses. Also, Medicare does not cover the LASER type surgery, I opted for the traditional knife, with no problems.

Hope this helps.
Even though I'm not the OP I want to thank you for your thorough answer. My husband needs prism and also has astigmatism. He also has his first upoming appointment at Lake Eye for cataract surgery. A few months back we went to a different doctor and because my husband is disabled and can't walk from wheelchair to bed and back for surgery unassisted they won't do the surgery. Lake Eye makes it so much easier. We will have medical transport to move my husband from wheelchair to bed and back after surgery. Back into bed at home, if needed afterwards. I appreciate your input on this.

I go to Dr Gutti - take a look at how many cataract surgeries he has performed. He is the best. I am very happy with results.

I wore glasses for reading and distance for 40 years. Several years ago I had Dr. Holman perform surgery on both eyes for cataracts. I also had multifocal lenses put in. He was fantastic, and today my eye sight is also still perfect.
