Tied for 13th, and in for the weekend. I think most wood agree Tiger is good for the game of golf. Spieth had another incredible round. What a nice kid - I hope he can keep it going.

People here seem to be wishing that he won't make the cut or make the cut and play poorly on the weekend. Other people are implying that he has faked injury as an excuse to withdraw from tournaments. The guy has had back surgery. His back, much like Fred Couples' will always be an issue. If you think that he's a quitter, just look back to the 2008 US Open where not only did he finish with a knee that was extremely painful but beat Rocco Mediate in a playoff. The guy is tough. He doesn't give up.

Why aren't people upset about Rory McIlroy who is currently three shots behind Tiger?

I learned something about The Masters from an old golf professional many years ago. It doesn't always hold true but it's almost a pretty good bet, mostly because of the nature of the golf course and the field, that the score after 36 holes will be two or three shots of the winning score and the person leading after 36 doesn't usually win. Anyone who makes the cut usually has a chance to win with a good third round.

Right now, Jordan Spieth is playing golf of historic proportions. I'd love to see him keep it up and break all the records, but the odds and history are against that.

Nothing whatever happens in this tournament will not surprise me. Don't forget, when Tiger won his first tournament, he shot 40 on the first nine holes and was way back in the pack after the first round. Spieth could continue to play like he's been playing and shoot 30 under and break all records. He could come out tomorrow and shoot 80 and be back in the middle of the pack. Tiger is playing pretty well today. One good round tomorrow and he could be in the thick of it.

I've watched this tournament for a long time and the suspense is what makes it interesting. You really never know what to expect. People shoot lights out and people crash and burn. It's that kind of a golf course.

Don't forget, this is Tiger's first event after a long, long layoff. He has been injured physically and psychologically. It's my opinion that in spite of what he has said in press conferences that he was suffering from the chip yips. If that's the case, the fact that he is playing tournament golf at all is remarkable. Chip yips usually spells the end of a career. It's one of the reasons, along with a physical issue, that I don't play any longer.

I don't know of anyone who has ever overcome chip yips. And if this is indeed the case then Tiger has accomplished another super human feat.
Well said. He is one of the best players in the history of the game. If anyone can do something superhuman, its Tiger.

Now that Tiger has his short game back, I'm personally disappointed.

Since I moved down here I had two golf goals.
1] to drive the ball further than I can see
2] to chip and putt like Tiger Woods

In February I drove the ball 200 yards which is now further than I can see and I was chipping and putting just as good as Tiger.

He was off so long due to his back surgery and resulting poor play, that to make the cut in the Masters, one of the most difficult venues on tour, is pretty amazing. None of us can really appreciate how difficult it is to maintain a competitive edge on the PGA tour. Making the cut was a huge accomplishment for Tiger. He has virtually no chance of winning, but it will be interesting to see if he could come up with another couple of good rounds and possibly a top 10 finish.

Tiger has done well to make the cut. And it appears he's overcome the chip-yips, which is another big accomplishment...although you can never assume something like that is behind you forever. The yips are very insidious, as many golfers know, myself included.

But so far the weekend...and the past month or so...belongs to the next great 21-year-old, Mr. Spieth. Only he can allow all the others to have even a chance to get back in the hunt for the title. Appears unlikely the way he is playing. What a talent!

As none of us will be either, or Jack, or Arnie or Gary or so many that raised the level and popularity of the game. Now you have a large number of 20 somethings that are all competitive, hit long drives and score well. No dominance yet, and until there is, golf will be what it was, talented athletes without that standout that attracts.

If you are a fan, he is having a great round. You can see it online live click here

He's paired up with Garcia. They are not the best of friends.

I predict that, regardless of how his play the remainder of the weekend turns out, Tiger will continue to display behavior that is below the dignity of the game and its top players.

He hit a very bad drive on #13 today, and after letting his driver fly out of his hand...doesn't actually 'throw' it, just let's it go before the swing is even finished (what the heck is that anyway?)...he drops the 'f' bomb twice, once along with reference to the supreme being. Broadcasters later apologized if viewers happened to hear.

I'm no prude and don't claim to be, but I just can't get past this sort of behavior. Nobody's perfect. But all these golfers know there are cameras and microphones everywhere. Their actions will be seen and heard by the world. Most of the golfers conduct themselves with dignity because that's their character. Some others likely suppress some tendencies. But very few show such lack of class.

IMHO.

This is now a golf tournament. Speith had a huge lead but now it's only 4 shots. Tiger is seven shots back tied for 5th. He actually has an outside shot to win.

I guess you missed the part where McIlroy hit a bad shot and said "F" me. Do your comments apply to Rory as well?

Of course they do. Rory threw a club in a lake too. He acts up a couple dozen more times and he'll be right up there with Tiger.

Maybe they make so much money they just don't care about the general public's opinion.

Having said that, it's bad for the sport
