The best fish and chips I’ve had recently was at Lake Eustis Waterfront Grille. It’s 40 minutes from my house in the villages, but well worth the trip.

For those who like thick batter deep fried mild white fish, without the fishy smell or aftertaste, Captain D's in Leesburg is a good choice.

Kind of strange to me to go to a fish restaurant for sausage roll

For a fast-food fish sandwich, I'd have to say Culver's is absolutely the best. I thin this is cod, though they served fried lake perch (a taste of home for folks from the Great Lakes area) during Lent.
For true (batter-dipped, deep-fried) fish and chips, I've really liked Miller's Ale House on 441 at the north end of The Villages. Just don't look at the calorie count on the menu - it's about a full day's worth of food, calorie-wise. I believe this is cod. For something different (and crunchier) the fish fingers appetizer at The Fenney Grill is pretty tasty. The fish are rolled in corn flake and fried. The Lighthouse in Lake Sumter Landing serves a similar concoction. It's better than it sounds. I think this is haddock in both places, but I'm not sure. For something NOT fried, the food truck at Edna's On The Green serves a blacked fish that is particularly tasty to me, though I think it's best when they manage to do it with redfish (which they can't always get). I have generally not been impressed with the fish & chips at any of the country clubs I've tried. I think even Red Lobster has them beat, and I'm not a huge fan of Red Lobster. I mean, it's edible, but it's just not that great. |

I've lived in The Villages for six years and I've tried all the restaurants for fish and chips. I'll give you the best and worst: The best, by far, is O Shucks on 301, and the very worst I've had was at Blue Fin.

Thanks! I went to O'Shucks last night since that restaurant was named most often. Pretty Darn Good! Going to also try some of the other restaurants that were mentioned. Will give an update as I go.

Worst fish ever right off the Gordons or Sysco truck. Once you get through the coating there is a very small piece of fish, never again...
