Very true. Only see it in England.
Order fish and chips with mushy peas and server says huh all the time.

I had a veggie pizza a few days ago at Roberto's. I've always liked Roberto's but never had had their pizza. The pizza was fine but I was very disappointed that the bell peppers and onions were basically raw. Other pizza places pre cook the vegetables before they put the pizza in the oven.
As I said, this seems to be the norm in restaurants. Has anyone else noticed this trend.
And no, I didn't send it back, we already waited long enough and I didn't want to keep my fellow diners waiting. And no, I didn't report it to the manager because I just assumed that this is the way that they serve vegetables.
Precisely why I don’t order vegetables while eating out.

We love Bluefin. They have a tasty nice side of halved Brussel sprouts with bits of bacon. Last time we had that side the brussels were very crunchy. Unlike all other times. We did not mention it and cut them up a bit smaller. We also knew that 1/2 would go home in the doggie bag. When warming up there, much better. Next time we’ll mention it when we order.

that's left over from the preindustrial revolution with lots of unknown disease sources.
if your MIL grew up with parent from the late 1800, like my parents, over cooking / boiling / steaming to mush was the only known way to sterilize the food.

The food safety advancements in the last 100 years is exponential, and intl cuisine is beyond the comprehension of most housewives from the pre industrial days.

we live in extraordinary times. . .

Yes. I just request double steaming and sometimes they come out softer!

I like my onions and mushrooms sauteed. Everything else, I like mostly raw, or crispy.

There is wiggle room between raw and mushy. Bonefish Grill is famous for serving their green beans and broccoli very crunchy, almost hard. Yesterday we asked our waitress if they could cook the green beans a bit more so they weren't so hard. When our food came out, the beans were perfect. My husband asked our waitress to thank the chef and tell him/her the beans were just as he liked them, cooked through and just slightly crisp. She said she had made a point to tell the chef that her customer wanted the beans well done rather than hard, and the chef obliged. Maybe all we have to do is ask.

We love a veggie pizza! Prefer the veggies soft on pizza. Sometimes you get that and sometimes you don't. Eating out in Central Florida/ TV, is pretty much a crap shoot.

I order my broccoli well done and it’s usually perfect.
