Maybe he left because his shift was over????? When it's time to clock out, you have to do it. I'm sorry for you that someone wanting to talk to you is such an intrusion into your time. I think I have known (and did everything possible to avoid) people like you in my life. Do you really feel that if you decide to frequent a dining establishment that everyone there is your servant?? Since you are probably in the same age range that I am, I'm surprised that you are still hanging on to male chauvinism...I hoped that our generation had matured beyond that.

When I am done eating remove the dirty dishes. Keep me in beer till I am ready to leave. Bring me the bill. I will pay, and I leave a tip from 20-30 % tip depending if ur female with nice legs.
Wow, that's quite a list of rules. Makes me glad I'm not a server waiting on you.

Default Job description

I believe what I ask of the wait staff to be a very nice job description for a waiter or waitress. The comment bout the nice legs was just a small sidelight in jest.

Default Disappointed

I am very disappointed with the overly "progressive" responses to this thread. If you don't do your job, your pay or lack thereof should reflect your performance. It is this progressive claptrap that lets murderers off because they had a "rough childhood". Results are what count. If the staff suffers because of a co-worker's lack of professionalism, that is between them and the slacker. It is most likely that they already know what they are dealing with. However, that being said, the manager still should have been informed.

Obama welfare??? Here in the state of Michigan, the governor has instituted policies that have taken many, many people off welfare..guess they just have to ask the president?? I'm sure he has lots of time to deal with the food stamp/welfare issue since there are NO world issues at this time. I am seriously reconsidering my plans regarding moving to TV...at this time in my life, I'm really not sure I want to spend the rest of my life with the kind of attitudes I have heard expressed here. One of the measures I always used to determine whether or not I want to know a person is to observe how this person treats people that may be perceived as their 'underlings'...when I met my husband, I watched how he treated the waitstaff when we went out to dinner..if he had acted arrogant or condescending I would not have continued seeing him..As it was, Steve was wonderful to everyone, friendly, respectful...and I married him. Trust me, the way a person treats people that take care of them speaks volumes about the type of person he is.

the kid was unprofessional, you should have informed the manager.

Now because you did nothing at the time you try and vent here, you should have vented there.

If the kid said that to me I would have said what makes you so sure your getting one?

We tip as a courtesy for good service, it's not a requirement.

So reading a few posts here not knowing any one of the writers personally brings you to that decision......out of 95,000 residents.....

how do you spell profiling?

You're right, and I apologize if I came across with a cranky attitude. Village, I wasn't there so I really can't judge your actions and I'm sorry..maybe the kid was a jerk (God knows, I have run across a few of them myself!)..I just have a knee jerk reaction to things that I perceive to be unfair and I really hate it when people treat other people badly.

By the way, the reference to the nice legs was funny and normally I would have laughed, I just possibly read more into what you were actually saying..that the server at the restaurant you went to didn't do his job properly. Ok, I feel better now..Thanks Jimbo!

Come on down Trish and bring nice guy Steve too. We have our share of Villagers who will infuriate you with their politics, but there are also lots of us who think the word progressive is a good word. And we will welcome you.

Don't try to find and excuse not to tip you cheap person. I had a wonderful meal with my wife and excellent service there. Service staff depend on tips...treat them well and they will treat you well.

I don't make tipping so complicated and allways use the same method to insure fairness in my oun mind rather a quick lunch, or a meal with drinks.

1. Poor service: 15 %
2. OK service: 20%
3. Great service: 25%

I allways tip in cash. I read above about the tip going to the host, cooks etc. I need to look at that and maybe put the tip back on the card again.

Exclamation Taxes

Unless things have changed, the waiter gets taxed (reported to the IRS as income) a minimum 10% of the bill if the tip is not on the card. I would never leave less than 15%, but leaving less than 10% is stealing from the waiter. Say something to the manager!

The percent of a tip varies a bit around the country also I think, but 15% is average and 20% + for great service.

I have friends who base the tip on the food less sales tax in fact one couple bases their tip less the liqueur?

Different strokes.......
