"I believe", you said. That is fine. I say, I am not yet convinced of his existence or of his divinity. But that is for a discussion on philosophy. |

I’m really sorry to read that one is tipping for a minimum wage - but I won’t. I don’t believe in that system. I will pay for service but not for wages - that is a different issue completely.

But my point is that Federal law requires restaurant servers to receive at least the Federal minimum wage. But even servers who know the law, will still tell you that they only make $2.13 per hour. Some of them are lying to encourage tipping. |

If I were a server I would either say $2.13 if that was my base rate or I would tell you to mind your own business. Why should servers have to take being interrogated and judged about their pay? Federal law requires a lot of things that don’t happen. That’s why we have fines, jails, and lawsuits. Unfortunately, challenging a dishonest employer is beyond the reach of most servers. (Which is why we have unions but that is a topic for a different thread)

I don’t think so - I believe there is an attempt to download paying of the wages on to the customers, however, this can only be done if the customers is willing. I find this system open to all kinds of abuse and I won’t part take in it. If other people want to, that’s on them.

I agree that servers should tell people who ask about their pay that it is none of their business. But I am referring to servers who volunteer that they are paid below the minimum wage, which is spreading false information. |

YES, 100% of employees wages are paid by the customers! If you don’t prefer lower prices and a 20% tip then just automatically adjust prices up 20% and leave that higher amount rather than a tip. Stereotyping in general is wrong but every once in a while the reason for a stereotype stands out.
