I worked as IT for several years in my previous employment. I'm pretty good with a computer so I don't need help very often. I'm not crazy about the big box stores working on my computer as they tend to wipe it losing all my files and call it fixed. I like the person who will "fix" it saving my files.
I had a problem with my computer and after a couple of days working on it, I finally called a gentleman who lives in my neighborhood. Alan Tudor. He came out to my home, spent time with me telling me what he was doing and why. I wanted that so if anything goes wrong, I have a clue what was done. He advised me on the best antivirus and it's FREE as well as some other tools to keep my computer tuned up. When he was finished, my computer was running like a top. Alan Tudor emal is alan@computer-wizard.biz 35+ years experience Microsoft certified XP, Vista, Win 7/8 MS Office Home or office, software or hardware, network or internet, upgrades or repairs, Or, just a little help. I was pleased.

This is true... I was running Norton when I got the Virus. The Gentleman from Villages PC recommended Avast to my husband. Honestly... We thought.. How good could it be when it's free??? I'm now running it. I could be wrong.

Microsoft Security Essentials is another option to consider ...it's free, integrated with Windows, and updates frequently. My support tech in Virginia recommended it to me several years ago and I've been happy with it FWIW.

I would recommend that everyone should so their own research, and consider this "no-cost" option provided by Comcast. JMHO

I was answering a question about what was suggested. I didn't have the Comcast Norton.. I had downloaded the Norton 360. It's all good....

I have been running MicroSost Security Esentials with MalwareBytes, for several years, with no problems. Both are free and can be downloaded thru the MicroSoft website, I just type in what I need thru Google, and Google makes it happen. I respectfully disagree with the person who said that if it is free, it leaves a lot to be desired. I previously had a paid McAfee virus protection subscription, and I still got several viruses. Since switching to MSE and MalwareBytes, no problems, I just used these programs and update them weekly, religously.

I used Avast for a while and didn't have problems in the beginning. Several months later I had all kinds of issues and then a virus got through Avast and destroyed my computer. It was explained to me the free antivirus software is only updated for new virus every few days.
After buying a new computer I decided to go with paid Norton and had all kinds of problems so I switched to paid McAfee and it locked up my computer repeatedly. I then switched over to Trend and a virus slipped through it and locked up the computer again. We used AVG virus removal free to get rid of that virus and no problems since. |
