![]() Dear Guests: A couple is fined $300,000 plus because they said they would not bake a cake for a gay wedding. A farming couple from upstate New York are under heavy attack because they refuse with their part time wedding business to all a lesbian couple to be married. Many states are being pressured to remove their Confederate flags. A fireman from Albert Leah MN placed a Confederate flag on the back of his fire engine as a protest against political correctness, for a parade and is now being threatened to be fired. Students across the nation are being harassed by educators for expressing their freedoms of religion or their conservative views. Progressive students talk of trigger warnings and micro aggressions regarding American history, political situation that do not compute in their liberal minds Progressives dealt deep blows to Donald Trump because he spoke the truth about our immigration policy and there is ample evidence in the daily newspapers to support his claims Climate change is a hoax based on faulty scientific evidence whose only basis is profits for renewable that have been proven to be extremely expensive , unreliable and supported by heavily by taxpayers Obamacare and Dodd-Frank are in short dictatorship by government and to add insult to injury ineffective in their intended purpose Perhaps the word is too harsh but all of this is beginning to look like fascism and it is clear progressives are demanding we follow their agenda their rules their dictates irrespective of our political, moral, religious or individual views. The buzz word for them is öffensive" They find white male history to be "offensive" the confederate flag "offensive", refusal to acknowledge the new normal "offensive". But with First Amendment Rights someone is going to be offended. At the risk of being accused of being racist let me say my tastes differ and i am offended from the rap, hip hop culture with all the blink, dirty dancing, offensive lyrics and the same melody connected to every song and the gangster overtones. It certainly is a long way from Nat King Cole. Louis Armstrong and Johnny Mathias But this is their time and so I take solace in my old albums. I select radio stations that fit my tastes In my view its time to push back because if we don't what looks like fascism will quickly become fascism. So ignore the PC think as an individual and your rights to freedom of expression speech religion, etc Personal Best Regards: |

"A current threat to academic freedom in the classroom comes from a demand that teachers provide warnings in advance if assigned material contains anything that might trigger difficult emotional responses for students. This follows from earlier calls not to offend students’ sensibilities by introducing material that challenges their values and beliefs."
On Trigger Warnings | AAUP "SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Should students about to read “The Great Gatsby” be forewarned about “a variety of scenes that reference gory, abusive and misogynistic violence,” as one Rutgers student proposed? Would any book that addresses racism — like “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” or “Things Fall Apart” — have to be preceded by a note of caution? Do sexual images from Greek mythology need to come with a viewer-beware label? Colleges across the country this spring have been wrestling with student requests for what are known as “trigger warnings,” explicit alerts that the material they are about to read or see in a classroom might upset them or, as some students assert, cause symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in victims of rape or in war veterans." http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/18/us...uirm.html?_r=0 "The political left has come up with a new buzzword: “micro-aggression.” Professors at UC Berkeley have been officially warned against saying such things as “America is the land of opportunity.” Why? Because this is considered to be an act of “micro-aggression” against minorities and women. Supposedly it shows that you don’t take their grievances seriously and are therefore guilty of being aggressive toward them, even if only on a micro scale." http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/18/us...uirm.html?_r=0 "CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A tone-deaf inquiry into an Asian-American’s ethnic origin. Cringe-inducing praise for how articulate a black student is. An unwanted conversation about a Latino’s ability to speak English without an accent. This is not exactly the language of traditional racism, but in an avalanche of blogs, student discourse, campus theater and academic papers, they all reflect the murky terrain of the social justice word du jour — microaggressions — used to describe the subtle ways that racial, ethnic, gender and other stereotypes can play out painfully in an increasingly diverse culture. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/22/us...ill-sting.html I am being convinced that many on here do not even realize what is happening in our schools and around the country. Activism abounds I was not the OP on this and just trying to help out. There was a thread on what is happening in our elementary schools as well which all should read. |

And in elementary school as well.....
"St. Paul's Frost Lake Elementary has focused intensely on its black students lately. Administrators and teachers pore over data and ask: If black students make up 20 percent of the student body, why do they account for 65 percent of the suspensions? Why do they lag behind peers in reading and math? The school's "equity team" is an offshoot of the district's three-year relationship with San Francisco-based consultant Pacific Educational Group, or PEG. The premise: Educators can only chip away at achievement disparities if they confront their own racial biases and the ways racism permeates schools. "We are asking our staff to change rather than expect kids to change to fit our comfort level -- and that's huge," said Frost Lake Principal Stacey Kadrmas. PEG's input has spurred districtwide changes in St. Paul, from a push to reduce suspensions to a bid to integrate students with intensive special needs into mainstream classrooms. Districts such as Edina examined reading selections, hallway posters and curriculums to ensure they include faces and voices with whom students of color can identify. Critics say PEG's work has alienated some educators and, in recasting certain discipline issues as cultural misunderstandings, let disruptive students and their families off the hook. Some point to the cost of PEG's services and the scarcity of solid evidence they boost achievement. I am not the one who asked for the explanation, but thank you all for the enlightenment. There is so much going on under the radar, that it is frightening. I wonder how many parents, if they honestly knew what was going on in education today, would choose more critically where they send their children. I am so happy that I switched my son after the 5th grade to a private school that honored the same values that we did as a family. I could see the huge conflict developing in our family when he was attending public school. After the switch, it took time, but I am grateful to say that my son has turned out very well - a critical thinker who is not afraid to stand for what he values. We may not always agree about things, but it's okay because I know that his decisions are made thoughtfully and not because he is following the crowd or ideology or whatever. Ironically, he still remains popular and likable, despite the fact that he probably sticks out in his crowd of peers. Parents need to quit kowtowing to their children's whims and do the right thing!! Every parent I know that wasn't afraid to take that stand and became engaged in their children's education produced as a result upstanding, responsible, independent thinking children. We need more of that if we want to set things right in this country. It starts with the family unit.

How about adding this to the list:
D.C. Residents Say Take Down Jefferson Memorial, Rename Washington, D.C. | PJ Media The media continues to seek out these minority position assaults on America, giving them a validity they would other wise never attain. The confederate flag issue started the same way....same logic....and the media was there to assure impact by isolated special interests being completely blown out of proportion. Unfortunately the silent majority's trigger has yet to be pulled. I hope and pray at some point there will be something that jolts the majority. Maybe when the attack on the flag of the USA comes up for serious consideration there will be an awakening. I am glad I experienced America when it was a true, patriotic, majority rules reality. |

As far as the confederate battleflag issue - it is a piece of history and therefore should be in a museum. Please get more credible sources than PJMedia. That is just laughable. |

I had never heard the phrase "trigger warning" before today. I looked it up and recognize it. On television, the warning about "graphic situation and content" before "Law and Order" is a warning for parents to decide if they want their kids to look at the show. I can also understand how a rape victim might be traumatized by watching a show with a graphic rape scene. Those triggers are real! For example, I have had an extremely painful dislocated shoulder accident. I cannot comfortably see a person in a tv or movie situation who has a dislocated shoulder. I can only imagine what the feeling would be for a victim of a sexual assault seeing that on television.
I also looked up micro-aggressions. I did not think before how those could actually be hurtful to others. I am going to try and be more careful in what I say. |

Of course I do not believe ALL of the residents of DC want to tear down the Jefferson Memorial or rename Washington, DC just like all of the Americans who do not want the confederate flag treated as it has been in recent weeks!!!! You obviously are aware that the laws of the land do not take into consideration any majority anymore. They respond to special interests and minority representations that meet the current political agenda and amplified for false credibility by the media. Just like one person can get a school board to change something their child does not like in school. Just like one person can object to the 10 commandments being in a public place. Or how about the few who do not want to offend anybody by saying Merry CHRISTmas. Sorry........your notion of ALL having to back a position does not work in America any more......and YOU know it! |

In regard to this statement:
A couple is fined $300,000 plus because they said they would not bake a cake for a gay wedding. A farming couple from upstate New York are under heavy attack because they refuse with their part time wedding business to all a lesbian couple to be married. In both of these cases the "Business" made a religious freedom claim as the basis for refusal of service. Under US law if you are a business for public accommodation then you cannot that claim. All of us should understand that given we all went through the Civil Rights fight in the 60's. Your religious freedom stops at their civil rights....that's the simple truth. |

At this point, my only comment is that I am extremely disappointed in those posters who find any movement as defined in all the links on our young people brains and education.
The snide and sarcastic comments tell me that, in fact, there is a large population who just flat out does not care about the country, only certain individuals within. I am not that smart, perhaps as you who mock, but it bothers me and I sure wish I could understand how this is the right thing to do, as you all obviously all do. Questioning the source is fine IF it were the only source. The words have been defined and those of you who are fine with this....it is your right. I just do not get the mocking tone evident in the posts. Makes you really reevaluate. |

Would love to hear what you think about the entire subject. For the record, yes.....need to follow the law, absolutely. Almost half a grand in fine seems a bit hefty but it is what is, The point, and I am not the OP, but the point is how ALL of our commerce activities are being affected by activist activity. I think he was speaking of the legalizing of marriage between people who just a few short years ago were breaking every states law, and whose marriage was opposed by the President of the United States 3 years ago. The swift movement was a result of unrestrained activist activity in our government. The President did not simply wake up one morning in the last 3 years and oppose it nor did Hillary Clinton. Suspicion is that the activists in California pushed hard with the threat of "no more money" and there are links I could give but they would simply be made fun of. BUT PLEASE do not be so insulting as to compare this to the 60's. The act of gay folks was illegal and still is in most countries of the world, the President and ALL candidates for office were against it 3 short years ago. THIS does not even compare in any way at all to the century old fight for civil rights that reached a crescendo in the 60's and it is a bit insulting to suggest that it does. |

Ok you asked for a complete response so I will honor that request for your other points:
Many states are being pressured to remove their Confederate flags. A fireman from Albert Leah MN placed a Confederate flag on the back of his fire engine as a protest against political correctness, for a parade and is now being threatened to be fired. The Confederate flag was not used after the Civil War until George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door to refuse admittance into the University of Alabama for 2 students of color. Then the Confederate flags went up all over the south...check it out because I researched this little known fact. Students across the nation are being harassed by educators for expressing their freedoms of religion or their conservative views. Progressive students talk of trigger warnings and micro aggressions regarding American history, political situation that do not compute in their liberal minds I don't see the world in an either or liberal/conservative way. Perhaps that is because I am conservative on some issues and more liberal on others. To me not all news stations other than Fox are the liberal media to be distrusted. As for freedom of religion....my views were forged in grade school when I went to public school from Catholic school. That would have been around 1959-60 when we had to read from the Bible. Being Catholic I couldn't read from the King James version nor could I say "For thine is the Kingdom...." at the end of the Lord's Prayer. This caused quite an issue for the 5-6 of us in the class. We were mocked, treated differently and then when Kennedy ran for President it only got worse. I had never experienced such hatred..... Progressives dealt deep blows to Donald Trump because he spoke the truth about our immigration policy and there is ample evidence in the daily newspapers to support his claims Not sure what "progressives" you are talking about but he has been hit in the pocket book by 9 businesses. I really don't think Trump will stay in the race because of the financial disclosures but its fun to watch. Climate change is a hoax based on faulty scientific evidence whose only basis is profits for renewable that have been proven to be extremely expensive , unreliable and supported by heavily by taxpayers Obamacare and Dodd-Frank are in short dictatorship by government and to add insult to injury ineffective in their intended purpose I believe that there is climate change even the 1 scientist used by the deniers has changed his tune. Obamacare has given healthcare options to people who were not able to be insured. The insurance companies went to far when they refused healthcare to a newborn claiming a "pre-existing condition". There does need to be some controls on banking....they drive this country to the brink in 2008. Hopefully this answers your questions.... |

I am the OP on this thread. Poster #3 and poster #14 have added substance to this topic.
I started this topic because for the last few years I have been following what has been occurring in our educational institutes and because progressives have been targeting certain people unfairly. While I have no feeling either way about her, Paula Deen used an ethnic slur long ago ( in 1960's) and in a recent deposition answered honestly when asked had she ever used that word. Now in my view whether she said it only in 1960 or yesterday, what right do progressives have to systematically destroy her living over it. One CEO quit his job because he refused to acknowledge same sex marriage. Chick Fil A came under heavy fire . I mentioned the fireman from MN, in my original post, to underscore how these vicious attempts to punish people who have every right to free speech continue unabated. The Confederate Flag is under attack. I don't have an opinion way or another concerning the confederate Flag but I do care that those voters who fly it have every right to do so. so the progressive intimidation machine get in full force destroying what they deem offensive Perhaps, I am wrong but I do not see any difference in Southeners celebrating their flag as those Americans that fly their Irish, Italian, German, English and Canadian flags waving from homes, cars or golf carts. Thomas Jefferson said: " No provision in our constitution ought to be dearer to man that which protects the rights of conscience against the enterprises of civil authority . It has not left the religion of its citizens under the power of its public functionaries, were it is possible that any of these should consider a conquest over conscience of men either attainable or applicable." I preface this because I want you to be ready for the blast you are going to get from the gay rights push on their attack of religious freedoms Justice Kennedy intentional left a back door open for the gay movement. They want a rewrite of civil rights laws and The Religious Freedom Reformation Act, etc. Gays abhor the Hobby Lobby ruling and are looking to over turn it. In my view Jefferson had it right. So if you are religious or if you are morally against same sex marriage etc be ready to be pushed, criticized, badgered ,defamed, suspend or fired from your job and taxed to the hilt by the government. The only recourse is to push back hard and to let your congressional/state leaders know that they better push back too or lose your vote. I am tired of being polite, I am tired of being pushed and I am tired of people with no common sense radically changing our society to its detriment Personal Best Regards: |
