Default D.U.I. In the Villages

Dui's in the village. Are there more because of the vacation/fun aspect of living in the Villages? Seems that the ones caught and listed in that other News thing are almost always multiple dui violators. I really feel sorry for these people when I see an older person, retired with so much to live for doing this. The dangers to others and themselves. Is there a bigger alcohol problem than we actually see? What do you think?

What makes you think there are more DUI's in TV than any other town of the same size?

Are they saying all of these are Villagers or they were caught in the Villages?

I didn't mean to say more I am asking if you thought there was and how do you feel about it. They usually do mention the village the person lives in. I realize as we age a lot of people continue with the same problems.

I remember my first Life Style visit (+10 years ago). I have to confess, it was a vacation / fun atmosphere for us and we probably drove the golf cart when we shouldn't have done so. I think it's easy for first-timers and newbies to forget safety. This place is just too much fun!!! Older and wiser now.

I don't think there is.

I think villagers are more likely to problem drink at their old home, where they came from. Unless they came from a place with so much to do, so many friends your own age and so many nice days to go outside.

It's funny. Down here once in a blue moon I see a cooler with beer on the golf course. Back home it was quite common.

I think there is definitely alcohol abuse among older people. I know so many older people that drink way too much. I'm not saying they are drinking and driving, but they are drinking everyday three and four drinks per day. Some much more than that. I think a lot of it is loneliness for a widow or widower. Much of it is a gradual build up of tolerance, and addiction.

Considering the amount of AA meetings in TV, I'd be surprised if things were any different. Some won't drink at all, some will drink moderately, some will drink responsibly, some will drink too much and some are alcoholics but won't admit it. Let's face it, a lot of activities revolve around a cocktail or two. Plus, I think the LEOs here are well aware of the ones who imbibe too much on a regular basis and are on the lookout for them. So, that will lead to more repeat offenders.

I think Tom is right. "Back home", I think drinking probably was more solitary, and done at home.
In TV, there are Happy Hours and two-for-one drinks in most of the Country Clubs, restaurants and at the Town Squares.
It's a very social atmosphere. Maybe not more drinking than "back home", but more obvious.

Its the village seniors who get arrested for drug use that caught me off guard. Never used any kind of illegal drugs, never drank much in fact right ow i feel a bit of guilt taking an aspirin...that last part was a joke
