Following the debate Joe Biden agreed to make the "Republican response" to the debate. Governor Palin was offered the same opportunity by CNN, but her campaign declined. Rudy Giuliani presented the Democratic response.

Isn't the "protection" being provided by the Republican campaign managers bothering anyone? If McCain is elected she will be "one heartbeat away". If those that know her best don't believe that she is competent to even extemporaneously submit to media questions only three months before inauguration day, isn't that a concern to anyone?

I am very concerned about her obvious inability to speak extemporaneously.

This should be bothering everyone! IMHO you could've thrown a dart at a phone book page and come up with someone more qualified than Palin. But this is serious, very serious. It is my sincere wish that all "staunch" Republicans, take a breath and think about this woman up against the leaders of this dangerous world we live in. This country's beloved Tim Russett died in the blink of an eye, still in his prime. McCain is 72 years old. If people really want to put "Country First" they must consider all ramifications of this ticket.

The choice of Sarah Palin as V.P. goes directly to the poor and impulsive judgment of McCain. He is known for impulsive judgments. The world today is much too dangerous for this kind of crap shoot.

Because she's basically not too bright!! And , "the handlers" don't WANT her to speak, she'll expose the "REAL PALIN" and that will speak volumns about McCain's judgement on who will replace him if something happens to this 73 yr old melanoma cancer survivor.

I never, ever slip into this political site, although I read it.

However, after the Couric/Palin interview, I am a very unhappy frightened camper.
To me, it is just one more big spiraling step down our country's ladder.

My brother is mayor of a small town twice the size of hers. I don't know why he can't be the VP.

I was reading on CNN that even the arch conservative leaders of the Republican party that were praising her a couple weeks ago, are now calling for her to resign, saying she's out of her league.

It is the same reason that they are not letting Sen. Obama take part in the series of Town Hall Meetings that Sen. McCain suggested.

I don’t think so. McCain is more comfortable in a town hall setting than a structured debate scenario. Why would Obama intentionally give McCain an edge? This is all about being in an environment conducive to comfort and nothing to do with either candidate’s ability to B.S. their way through it. Unfortunately Palin doesn’t have the background or experience to B.S. her way on a national playing field with any credibility.

For those who take great stock in debates, Oct 2 should prove interesting.

I have fewer problems with Gov. Palin not being a foreign policy guru than I do with Sen. Biden not having domestic operations expertise.

The ivory tower that the Senate is makes for little concern for the common man. The longer one resides in the "100-Club" the more distant one becomes to the common man and his situation.

I like having at least one person who knows and is part of that "common man" society. While all of the others look down upon the land from on high and measure their portfolios in 7 and 8 digits of value, at least there is one person whose feet are on the earth with the rest of us. Politics at the national level should not be the private turf of millionaires' row....
