Exclamation Possible new scam

Getting calls from David Ross, 1-646-588-1663 is the displayed number. The person sounds Indian (from india) sounds like the virus detected on your computer, or something similar, very hard to understand.
Told them to not call again, and they were going to be reported. This did not help.

Do NOT answer this number if it calls you.

I have called the police on this. Not much they can do as this is not a threatening call. They have called 10 times in the last 2 days.

Default Scam calls

this has worked for me !
Ask the party to hold on line then turn your head and say hey.harry here's that call start your trace now, the caller either will hang up or ask what you're doing then realize then hang up. Have only gotten one call no repeats. Have a nice day.

Thats why, if we do not recognize the number we do not answer. Anyone with legitimate business will leave a message.

As a follow up if you are using Comcast for your home phone:
*57 will initiate a trace on the phone number, and tell you to call the police, however, the police do not seem to know about this feature.
*60 will allow you to screen (aka block) numbers, up to 12. The system is menu driven and easy to use.

fofd1091, I really like your idea, will try it the next time I/we get one of those calls.

If you receive calls like this on your cellphone it is very easy to block those calls. I am up to 37 blocked callers at this point. 5 of those are from IRS agents who have apparently moved to India.

Cell or landline. We bring our landline with us back and forth. So far just one robo call on land line about computer issues. That was just once. Wonder if Florida exchange is targeted more due to crooks feeling about taking the bait it easier.

All of my contacts in my phone have their pics that show on my phone when it rings. If they are not in my contacts call goes right to voice mail

This scam is a call from "Microsoft" (in India apparently) claiming they have detected a problem with your computer and wanting to get access to fix it. Block them!

I've done this in the past and use sergeant instead of harry. since moving here i use the landline as my fax line so all the bogus calls get a fax tone. friends and businesses we deal with have our cell phone numbers. i do check the numbers that called from time to time to see if any of the calls were legit, which they seldom are. the sheer volume of sales calls (unsolicited) amazes me.

Use "call forwarding" and send it automatically to the Sheriff, IRS, or Dial a Prayer.

I used to have fun with telemarketers. If Kirby vacuum salesman calls, I respond with – I own a Kirby Vacuum store, I get several free floor models, can you beat free. Sometimes I say I’m unemployed and start asking them questions about getting a job with their telemarketing company. They seem a bit flustered with that one. If I get a call to change my phone company, I’m a regional manager for AT&T, can you beat my price of free. If xyz water softener calls, I have an xyz water softener and love it, thank you for calling. If the IRS calls I say, boy did you pick the wrong number. I’m with IRS fraud protection, this call is being recorded, now what was your name and they hang up. What I get a lot of these days is surveys. They call and ask if they can ask a few questions about my tv watching or grocery stores or car shopping, or bank transaction, etc. I used to say I don’t have time and please don’t call back but they do. Now I tell them I’m just a house sitter and the owners will be back on, I just pick a date four months away. This seems to stop them, at least for four months I actually enjoyed messing with these people but I no longer have the patience. You can tell in the first few seconds if this is a legitimate call or a huckster. If I thought the call was sincere, I would engage them, but haven’t had one of those, yet.

I had a call like that last week. I asked him how the weather was in India? He hung up on me.
