Default Plans for Walmart Neighborhood Market

Site plans for the Walmart Neighborhood Market show a few interesting facts:
  • 41,921 sq ft. for grocery/pharmacy
  • 2,889 sq. ft. for liquor store
  • Gas islands
  • Access via Heald Way (west side of store between 466A and Moyer Loop) - we already knew this
  • ALSO access via Farner Way (east side of store between 466A and Moyer Loop) - back side of Villages Health Center
  • Site will be called Sarasota Plaza

That's going to be a very crowded store. Consider the Publix across the street is 54,000 square feet and the Publix at Grand Traverse off Powell Rd is 45,600 square feet.

Probably won't be as busy as some people think since there are so many walmart haters out there. I happen to like this concept of shopping having been in one not long ago.

I wonder what will go into that separate retail building.

Hope that will be enough to relieve the congestion and give alternatives to grocery shoppers in the area. Especially when it gets crowded. I can feel the traffic increasing and it is only September.

The Walmart neighborhood stores are much more expensive than the super Walmarts, but then again, Publix is no bargain either.

GG when I moved here 10 years ago people, including my wife, were talking with excitement about the Walmart on 466 and other stores being proposed. All that entered my mind is that 441 traffic was coming to 466. Less is more sometimes and this once green community is being covered with concrete.

A minor accident on 441 (not the fatality) caused a detour and it took my wife 1.5 hours to get from chula vista /441 to 466 and it isn't even prime time yet///but again that's Florida and I keep reminding myself that we have no state income tax tapping into our retirement savings such as SC, TN and some other states

Indeed life is a series of tradeoffs

I thought the same thing. It's frustrating when they "half do" something. It's the same thing with the Home Goods store. They built a small one and we could have used a larger one. I have a feeling this Walmart will be too small for the amount of people trying to use it. It looks like there was plenty of square footage on that lot to build a larger store. On the bright side, it will take some pressure off Publix.

There's going to be another Walmart near the Lowes on 466A? I hadn't heard any plans about that. Seems odd to have 2 of them on the same road just a few miles apart.

People do forget that this is a "town" of 120,000 people. When you consider all the neighborhoods around The Villages, it is much higher. When I think of a city in Illinois that is 120,000 residents, I expect some traffic problems so I don't see how TV is different.
