Recently, a Flying Club was started in The Villages. They meet the 1st Monday of the month at Hibiscus. It was originally called Licensed Pilot Club, but I think they changed it to either Aviation or Flying Club. I believe it is people who are currently licensed. Some of them may also be involved in ultra-lite aircraft. Worth a try anyhow. Good luck...[Political material removed by Tony.]

Hi bigrichie,

I can't help you specifically with ultra-lite info but I can point you toward another flying group in TV. The Hangar Flyers.

Mr. Boomer is a single-engine, instrument-rated pilot and although we do not live in TV at this time, when we visited he attended a meeting of the Hangar Flyers. At that time, 2007, the meeting was held on the historic side in a really nice recreation center that I cannot remember the name of. My guess is they could connect you to about any kind of flying that is there in TV.

I think TV has every kind of pilot you can think of. And the Hangar Flyers will probably know about them.

Here in Ohio where we live, an ultra-lite flies over our house on nice evenings. Mr. Boomer runs outside and looks up longingly. And I always go to look, too, and then I say, "Hey! Isn't that thing the classic definition of having your behind in a sling? Isn't that a lawnmower engine?"

And then Mr. B. patiently explains to me every time how that engine is a lot more powerful than a lawnmower engine and then he goes into a big thing about gliders. And then my eyes glaze over and I run back into the house.

Mr. Boomer's next adventure is probably going to be to get a glider rating. When Sully landed that plane in the Hudson River, Mr. B. went to work on me about the glider rating thing. I almost always give in. Although I do always say that I wish I could get that man interested in cheap hobbies like carving polar bears out of soap. (I have not given in about the ultra-lites though. I believe he took a ride in one once on his annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh. I think that's what it was. Some guy was taking people for rides to try to sell them.)

But I know how you guys who love to fly are. And when you find any group of pilots there in TV, I bet they will know where the ultra-lites are. And when we are there in TV and you are flying above, know that down below Mr. Boomer is looking up longingly and I am trying to drag him back into the house.

Anyway, Mr. B. really liked the Hangar Flyers meeting. And I bet if you connect with them, they could help you. .

So have fun with your new wings and have fun meeting other pilots along the way. I know that you will enjoy all of it.

Boomer

thank you for your reply, i will try to locate the group you spoke of here in tv.i know of a guy who instructs over in deland for 95$ an hr, everything in cluded, have met him at his shop & he seems to run a good operation., he also sels plane kits, & helps with thier assembly at his shop. met a couple of customers on line & they were pleased with his service. prices for planes are close to what you pay for some motorcycles, goldwings & luxury tourers, not cheap, but less than i expected. again thanks for your reply. rich

bigrichie,

When looking up the Hangar Flyers on a list of TV clubs, as I recall, it was not under 'H' on the list I was using while we were there. I think it was under 'A' for Airplane Hangar Flyers. My guess is that was done so that people interested in flying could find it more easily when they were looking for clubs.

Mr. Boomer had a great time at the meeting. There were even some WWII pilots there. Hangar flyers love to talk about flying, thus the club name, as I am sure you know. If you love to fly, you will enjoy this group I bet.

We were able to take a tower tour at Leesburg while we were there. But I don't know if that is still a possibility. It may have been just for a certain time. Once you get connected into that flying world there, you can gets lots of questions answered.

I hope when we come back to TV, I will get to see Mr. Boomer once in a while without having to look up into the sky.

Have fun.

Boomer, my son is setting up a sport plane business. It will involve a group of 4 people owning shares in an airplane. The plane is a Sport Cruiser. Piper is looking at buying the co. at this time. It's made in the Czeck Republic right now. You can google it. I'm also a pilot and interested in joint ownership of this plane. He's part of the "Lets Fly" group, they also can be googled. I'm in Hadley and will be interested in co-op owned sport aircraft in the future.

Default Pilots in TV

Ahhh, flying. I used to fly a Cesna 150-- back in the 1970s. It was a single-engine prop plane. I'm sure they don't make those anymore! I've been up in a glider, too and loved it! I never wanted to pilot one though. Something about having an engine to keep me airborne was conforting. Oh the memories. Happy flying.

Default sport aviation

I'm coming to this thread late, but there is a flying club off campus that has an LSA (Light Sport Aviation) Airplane which is rented and flown by members.

The grass strip field is very close to The Villages and the designation is 2FA6.

Email tony_con@comcast.net

Good luck

I've got my hopes up that TV will build an airport on their new acreage. I'm making up the possibility out of my head, but wouldn't that be sweet?
