Default Medical Care for Renters

We are renting in Villages for first time Feb-March 2018. Can anyone tell us what medical care/services are available for renters? Someone told us most of the main health care facilities in the Villages are for permanent residents only.

Thank you for any assistance--Mike

Just like anywhere else in the country, you have to check to see which doctors in the area accept your insurance. Contact your insurance company, they should be able to tell you if there is a doctor in the Villages who accepts your insurance.

What Boxofan said.... IF you got sick, you'd probably go to Urgent care first anyway then they'd decide the next steps. There's one at Lake Sumter Landing that has dr's plus x-rays etc. (if needed).

IF a medical emergency...then dial 911

Never heard that it is for permanent residents only. We own in The Villages, but are only in the Villages for 5 or 6 weeks a year., so we are not permanent residents. We have been to the Villages Hospital many times for medical care. We've also been to Urgent Care. There are also hospitals in Leesburg and in Ocala.

No doctor cares if you a renter or permanent, just what insurance you have or how much money you have available.

Billybye is right.
We are not permanent residents, we are seasonal, and we've had no problem obtaining medical care in The Villages.
Perhaps you are asking about medical care that accepts your plan?
We don't qualify for a medical plan because we're Canadian.
However we do have travel insurance which is accepted by the walk-in clinic on 466 (east of Morse).
We've also used the Villages Hospital for a wasp sting (allergies); but wouldn't recommend it for anything major.

There is so much misunderstanding and misinformation about The Villages. Sometimes I just have to shake my head.

I just returned from an eight day stay in The Villages Hospital, brought there by an ambulance that was traveling fast, I heard the medtech tell the driver to speed up.

I have been in hospitals a lot with our daughter and I know the difference between dedicated care and the other kind.

I was taken care of by experienced and warm, caring people and could not have asked for better care.

I am so glad to be home, and although I think highly of the hospital, I plan to go somewhere else NEXT Christmas.

It could have turned out very badly and it turned out very well. Wonderful people work at that hospital. Wonderful. They had me diagnosed when I arrived and I was immediately treated.

Thank you God. Thank you TVRH.

Glad to hear you were quickly and successfully treated, GG.

Happy New Year!

On my last visit to TV I picked up a tough to kick respiratory bug that was going around. Urgent care took great care of it. I was on Medicare with an AARP - UHC supplement.

Your insurance determines your health care choices, not your lifestyle. The Villages Health Care System has 8 care centers which only accept patients with United Health Medicare Advantage if you're over 65, no other health plans. That's probably what confused you or whoever you listened to. The United Plan has no premiums and also has drug coverage, I think it's a great plan. I get my care at the new Brownwood location.

We are happy to hear that you are OK and experienced the same treatment to a neighbor we help out once in a while, TVRH did a fine job with him also. Happy New Year Mrs. Gracie.

To the OP, your choices here are going to depend on what you have where you are coming from.

I am so glad to hear that you were treated successfully at The Villages Hospital.
It's very important to feel well cared for in a time of crisis.
And I'm glad to hear that the treatment was successful and that you're home now

I'm so happy you are okay but sorry you had to spend Christmas in the hospital.

We too had an excellent experience with TVRH emergency department a year and a half ago. However, it was August, and by the time I got to the hospital after the ambulance left the house, there was no one in the waiting room, including DH. I had been told at the entrance that someone would come get me when I could go back to the room. After over an hour, I asked when that was going to happen, and this time the (different) person said "Oh, you could have gone back immediately."

Treatment was fast and good, and dismissal was a day and a half later. In the interim, the problem we had (other than absolutely inedible food) was that some personnel miss-communicated or failed to communicate important information/directives to other personnel, including sending us to the wrong location for a follow-up visit.

However, those were not life-threatening issues, and I have been hesitant to jump on the bandwagon dissing TVRH or its ER, especially because there was no one in the ER waiting room when we arrived, so care was immediate.

We have, however, switched to a doctor connected to Monroe. I do believe we were lucky that August.
