I went to Target this morning with my grandson. We saw one empty space on the end of a row that was shaded. The cart in front of me turned into the space and parked right in the middle. I stopped behind without pulling in. As a lady was getting out of the cart, I said, “if you pull over to one side we can both park in the shade.” Her reply was, “yes I know that, but I prefer not to.” Exact words! Since my grandson was with me I just shook my head and pull into another space.
I told my grandson that it was not a rule that carts share spaces, but just a common courtesy. Thoughts?

The reply you got answers your question. I was going to say "why can't both be true?", but I think it's clear which one is the case.

Since you put your words in quotes, I assume that is exactly what you said. Those words can be perceived as an admonishment. Perhaps, had you said, "Good Morning. I would like to ask a favor. Would you mind pulling over just a little so I can share some of that shade?" the result may have been more to your liking.

Some are courteous and considerate. Others not so much. The actions of the woman you encountered felt a sense of power in this situation and has probably never been decent toward her fellow man.

I would have just parked somewhere else. To me, parking in the shade is really not worth asking the lady to move her cart, after she has already parked. I don't think the lady was rude.

Only one word to describe her behavior...selfish.

I would shared the spot, but that don't mean everybody else has to. I don't consider it bad parking. I also think why some don't share spot they're not that good of driver so they don't want to have to maneuver out of the spot cause they can't back up.

I have yet to read any golf cart parking official rules but I am familiar with what I would term “customary parking”. My bet is this person is familiar as well and decided she was a special exception. But how dare you be so rude in asking her to share the shade? Don’t you know that shade was there for her? The store she was visiting is there only for her also, and beware anyone in her way on any aisle or in front of her in the checkout line. |

Not sure how to differentiate between rude and just plain lazy, but I guess the difference is splitting hairs. Either way, just plain wrong.
